We had one of the worst restaurant experiences ever here last night. If I could have given 0 stars I would have. I went with my husband and daughter. We got there at 6:30 pm and ordered two waters while we looked at the menu. The waitress only had one straw and said she would be right back with the 2nd and to take our order. About 10 minutes later she came back with the straw and took our order. Around 7:15, she came back to our table and told us that our order somehow got lost and that it was never put in. Thank goodness I fed my daughter who just turned 1 before going to dinner!! We gave her our order again and she promised that she would ask the cook to rush it. She also asked if she could get us some water refills and then promptly forgot to bring them after we said yes. Our food finally came out around 730. We both ordered the chicken shwarma pita. The pita was so dry that it fell apart upon our first bite so we had to eat it with a fork. Not that good either. We ate and patiently waited to get our tab. After sitting for what seemed to be an eternity, the waitress never came to bring our tab (also never came to see if our meal was ok). We went up to the counter and spoke to who I imagine was the manager or owner and said we just wanted to pay and get out of there. It was close to 8 pm. He was aware of the situation because he was the one who brought our mediocre food out to us and apologized for the long wait. After paying our $17 bill, I told him that this was a horrible experience and that we would never be back again. He said sorry and we left. We will definately not be coming back here. It's unfortunate because I have been to the Red Olive in St. Clair Shores with my grandparents and really enjoyed it. All we wanted was a quick meal before heading to Meijer to do our weekly grocery shopping, which we never got to do because it was way past our daughters bedtime by the time we left. Definately will not be returning to this place. It was like a bad nightmare that just...

I came back in December 2024, and I’m thrilled to update my review to 5 stars. This place has really stepped up its game! The food remains classic Coney Island-style and absolutely great—exactly what you’d hope for.
What really stood out was the effort they’ve put into updating the interior. It now feels like an upgraded version of a traditional Coney Island—clean, fresh, and inviting.
The service was exceptional, thanks to Kayla, who seemed to be running the entire restaurant single-handedly. She handled everything with efficiency, professionalism, and a genuine smile.
It’s clear this spot is committed to delivering a great experience. Highly recommend stopping by!
My rating used to be a 4-5. We have been coming here for years and up until our last two meals, food was good, restaurant was clean, and service was excellent. Hardly anyone in the place anymore (although they seem to do a great carry out business). Between the last two times, had to go to the back to ask for water, ask for ketchup, ask for silverware, ask for bill. This time there were also flys, we killed one and when taking our order the server said “yeah they are annoying” - hoping that was a one time deal, given we have never seen them before. Although these past two times rate 1-2 star, I am averaging for a 3. We will give...
Read moreLet's talk about coffee. I'm a person that only drinks one dark roast coffee in the morning. I also only drink one large mug in my stainless steel Yeti with the vacuum seal and I want it to be a good tasting one or I don't want any at all. I'm that kind of person. So on a Sunday when we escaped the house and I never got my usual cuppa and we went to Red Olive for breakfast I was craving a cup of coffee. I almost never order coffee out unless it's a coffee cafe and then not often because I think it's crazy expensive. Ok. Please don't judge me. It's just my thing. But on this Sunday our darling waitress said: "Trust me. Our coffee is good. It is a Red Olive blend...not just a run of the mill type." She was right. It WAS good. Not the same as my homemade coffee but I'm telling you I had 3 cups. The cups are small and they re-fill often so it stays hot. I ordered a spinach feta omelet and they almost always taste the same everywhere and I like that taste so when we are making a breakfast decision I'll definitely suggest Red Olive because they have better coffee than other breakfast places we've gone to. Small pleasures in life make...
