I have no idea how the place is rated so highly.
Short version of my bad experience is: bad service, watered down drinks that we were over charged for, bad food.
We had an issue with our waitress not understanding a drink order and double charging for grey goose instead of up charging from well, making for a $13 martini, which was watery and sweet for some reason.
We ordered Oysters Rockefeller for an appetizer and got Briney/mushy oysters missing the spinach. This after being told they were fresh from the day before. One day shouldn't turn oysters to that texture.
I had the scallops, and was greeted with a nice portion of 6 scallops, which ranged from slightly overcooked to hockey pucks. They were less than artfully arranged on a massive oil slick from the vegetables. The whole plate was swimming in oil, and half the mixed veg was burned. The asparagus, which it shouldn't have had, but I was glad to see, was undercooked to where it was super crunchy, except the tips, which were burned. Finally, it was stated I'm the menu to come with rice, but that was suspiciously absent.
Service was overall, poor. We did take a fair bit of time catching up before ordering, during which time the waitress was there every 2 minutes, checking if we were ready, clearly not taking the hint. Apparently we had upset her because once we did order she almost never returned to refill drinks. Some drinks (tea/diet Coke) were only served once, then were bussed without refill.
From what my family said the steaks were decent, but they shared the vegetable complaints. So not even a saving grace there.
I have to assume that the burgers/pizza are good for this place to have such a high rating. Either that, or the owner has a lot of friends who came to write reviews.
Super disappointed. Will not...
Read moreWorst service in years, food was decent. Don’t wast your time, there are better local places. Update: I did not speak with a manager because there would have been nothing for you to do accept apologize, which means very little to me. I am not a person who leaves reviews and I typically tip 25-30%, your staff got around $.07. From the first moment speaking to the greeter, (term used very lightly) it seemed we were an inconvenience simply by walking in the door. Our waiter just disappeared after he got our drinks. I thought it would have been clear we wanted food because we were given menus, silverware, we said we were hungry, etc. Another waiter, saw us sitting there with drained glasses and confused stares and took it upon himself to take our order stating he was "covering" for his associate. The young man who took our order was extremely nice and given the opportunity I would gladly tip him a more than reasonable amount. Someone else brought our food eventually and we finally saw our original waiter when it came time to find someone to get us a check. The food was good but not $15 burger/bar food good. You failed at every aspect of providing a customer with a pleasant dining experience and you have the audacity to put the poor service back on me by asking, "how come you didn't talk to a manager?" The short answer, given what I saw, if there was indeed management at this facility, its clear little emphasis is given to customer service and my words would have not done anything to improve the experience of the next customer. I was polite, paid for my overpriced meal, and went on with my life. That being said, I obviously feel strong enough about the level of poor service to go back an fourth with you over Google. I would have given you 0 stars if it...
Read moreYesterday was our first and probably last time visiting Shakers. Their website states that everything is homemade. Well, homemade or not, their pizza is not good. I mean, like really not good. We ordered the Detroit-style pizza. I expected something like a Buddy's or Jet's or Dolly's or even Little Caesar's. Square, deep dish, crispy crust (bottoms, edges, corners, etc.). This was the opposite. Round and not crispy and just not good. I was also told that the mushrooms were fresh, not canned. We've had plenty of pizza in our lives with fresh and with canned. This looked canned, though we could be wrong--you be the judge.
The pizza was 1 star. Service from Bridget was good, 4-5 stars. The place is generally clean and roomy.
If you try this place, try something besides the Detroit-style pizza. Also, the onion rings served with the wife's cheesesteak also weren't great, it tasted a bit old. If it was fresh, it looked promising (breaded, not battered).
Good luck!
I added this on Aug 23, 2021. Dear owner, I can see how you think this is a fake review, as you state that Bridget does not work here. I have no idea why this happened, but it shows that I made the original review only 4 days ago. The fact of the matter is, is that I posted this original review well over 2 years ago; before the pandemic hit. So, apologies for the weirdo posting date. However, I still stand by everything I posted from that original review from 2 years ago. There WAS a Bridget at that time. I have since voted with my money and have not been back to your place since. I hope things have improved since that time. I wish you all the...
