Used Google to search for Family Diner while out driving around and this sounded interesting. When I got there I realized that it was the restaurant for the golf club at the sprawling Woodburn retirement Village which has been in existence for decades. I was hungry and went in anyway. Standard American faire is actually somewhat difficult to find in Woodburn. The staff is friendly. And the view is of the golf course. The decor is sort of a country cottage style. They only are open until mid afternoon. There was a full menu choice. Of breakfasts, sandwiches, burgers, and grill items. I chose the braised Tenderloin in gravy over egg noodles. It came with a green salad or house soup. The salad I received was fresh and crispy. It was garnished with some canned beets and shredded cheese. The blue cheese dressing was fine. I noticed that several tables that came in after me had already received their food. They had ordered breakfast items and burgers. I asked and the wait staff curtly responded that “it’s still cooking sir”. I can only surmise that the item I ordered was not standard and took a little more time to prepare. I did not time it but it felt like it took too long. When it arrived it was steaming hot and well cooked. There was a dollop of sour cream on top to mix in if I chose to. The serving size was large the beef chunks were plenty and flavorful. I did feel that the meat was just a little bit chewy. Sirloin can be that way. The noodles were fine. There was a mix of customers but obviously catering towards the retirement community. There were return customers because some of the wait staff were giving customers hugs as they were leaving. The pricing was actually quite reasonable. I do think that I would go back again given the opportunity. As a side note. I had a large amount of take home. So I sautéed some mushrooms and onions and added it to the mix then put in some Hungarian Paprika and it turned out...
Read moreThought I'd try this place out since I live fairly close. The place was busy and they seemed to be really short staffed so I will give them another try at some point, I'm hoping the following is a fluke and I'll post again if so. The descriptions of their food sounded pretty appetizing and I was looking forward to my meal. I ordered the French Dip with fries and the homemade bread pudding with warm vanilla sauce and whipped cream.
The French Dip was ok. The meat was dry but fairly tender, the hoagie was supposed to come toasted, it didn't and the au jus was the saltiest au jus I've ever had. Overall it was passable but not good and as much as I love French Dips, I don't think I could order this again.
The fries, ohhh those poor, poor french fries. I'm pretty sure they accidentally (I hope it was an accident)boiled them instead of frying them. They were the absolute soggiest and limpest fries I have ever seen in my life. They literally bent in half when I would hold one up. They were just awful and completely unedible. Seriously who makes fries like that?
And last but not least, the "homemade bread pudding with warm vanilla sauce and whipped cream" I was so looking forward to this and I almost cried (ok not really) when I took my first bite. The bread pudding was cold, not cool as in it was once warm, it was cold. Cold like I just took you out of the freezer and thawed you out cold. The warm vanilla sauce? Cold! The whipped cream? Non-existent, and no it didn't melt, it couldn't melt, everthing was too cold :(
I hate to say it but this meal was such a disappointment and waste of my money. At this point I could never recommend this place to anyone. I'm hoping that someday I get up the nerve to try again. I want, with all my heart, for my first experience there...

With friendly bilingual staff you are bound to find something delicious. This little restaurant is amazing. They have so many guests, and they kept on coming. I was really surprised for it being a weekday afternoon.
The atmosphere felt very homestyle, and we were honestly confused as we entered thinking we accidently walked into someone's home. Upon entry we saw comfy chairs, and loads of books plus board games.
While the actual seating and restaurant area is small the food and service was awesome. There was a nice view of the golf course and the sun shined nicely trough the large open windows. It had such an authentic old school feel to it. Definitely a spot for a gentleman to bring his lady.
We ordered to go, and while honestly the wait time was long just know that it was indeed well worth it. The beef stroganoff was super delicious and very well portioned. For dessert we ordered some amazing homestyle bread pudding. Everything looked so freshly made. We were certainly caught off guard upon opening our boxes.
You can always order ahead of time to help beat the Lunch traffic or use a food delivery service, but I highly recommend dining in for the full experience. I honestly can't put into words how great this place is, and surprised I never visited in my 30 years as a local.
All in all this place is definitely worth the hype, and don't forget to tell them that the "Wicked Neko" sent you✌😸🍽
