Merland's Tap & Table — Restaurant in Woodstock

Ar first glance, this is a comfortable spot to bring friends and family; the crowd here, the staff, everyone around are a pleasure to be around. We came here with a friend who's a quadriplegic, using a heavy and tough to navigate power wheelchair. There's a pretty big step up at the door, and I was certain we'd have to find a different place to bring our friend and his wheelchair. Courtney at the bar, Tracy, our server, and Mike, who may be the owner, helped out, arranging tables and chairs for him to get through, and Mike pulled out an actual wheelchair ramp and set it up at the front door to get my friend in the door. This place is an older place, obviously before people thought about things like wheelchair access, but I have to say I was impressed by the lengths everyone went through to help my friend have a good meal and a good time. And we definitely had both, because the food was delicious and the staff were nothing but great to be around. We're only visiting the area, but if I lived closer, this would, without a doubt, be the place at which I'd want to come hang out. This is a true, old school neighborhood spot like I grew up seeing. Wow we were blown away. The menu looked good and we had been there previously with different owners. This was a completely different experience. We started with the tater tots and damn.. They were tasty. I ordered the haddock plate while my buddy ordered the meat lovers flat bread. In addition we ordered some draft beers that were tasty. The service was absolutely fun and fantastic. We really enjoy places that can have fun and not be overly stuffy. The taters were kind of amazing to be honest. They didn't have an overwhelming amount of stuff on them and they were crispy and soft. Slick. My fish plate was great and as usual I ordered my fries a wee bit on the crispy side. Chef got it and they were yummy. I mean you have to understand there are fries and there are Fries. Well done chef. The flatbread was mouth watering and yummy. I was given a piece at the end and it was yummy. Have I mentioned the staff? We'll be back and are adding this place to our regular repertoire for our visits to this region. Solid food solid staff. What else do you want. We may have had 3 drinks each so keep that in mind if you look at what we paid. Very reasonable...

The other night we stopped at merlands and the staff was excellent mostly and food and drinks were great. But my girlfriend and I were eating at the bar next to an older couple when a bunch of people mobbed the place and the staff let them order drinks and stand around and wait. Which normally I would understand but when I mean mobbed the place there had to be 35 people standing around us shoulder to shoulder being loud and leaning on our chairs and mainly being disrespectful to the rest of the restaurant. I said something to the staff and they seemed to brush it off. Now listen I understand it's a bar but they were way over capacity by the looks and feeling and really ruined the whole experience. It's sad to say but it really kind of set me off when the staff brushed off my comment. It's not like it's a regular burger joint it was a very clean modern barn with great potential and charm.
