I recently visited 1885 and had an extremely disappointing experience, largely due to the owner's behavior. Upon entering, my friends and I(all 21 and 22 may I add) were greeted with with an older man in a state police pull over coming up to us standing in the corner. He began asking us where we came from and if we need water(no one needed water, we were clearly not overly intoxicated). To which I asked if he was a cop and he said no, that it was his friend’s pull over and that he’s the owner. To us this encounter was off putting. As young girls going out we have learned to keep our guard up, especially when feeling uncomfortable. This would be a whole different story if this man had checked our id’s accordingly as he was expressing that he believed we were underaged(which he would have seen were of age if he asked for id ). With no regards to our safety he told us to wait outside as he locked the door, shut off the lights and laughed with the bartender who as a women it’s disgusting that she acted that way. It was disappointing to see she did not see how uncomfortable we were. It's a shame because the bar itself has potential, but the owner's rudeness overshadowed any positive aspects. I won’t be returning, and I will advise others to consider whether they want to support a place where the staff's attitude can ruin...
Read moreFood: They had a smaller menu because it was an event for brunch. The french toast waffle was pretty good with just the right amount of crisp and softness. The steaks were cooked perfectly but kind of small portions. The special flatbed which was BLT was a bit overbearing with loads of lettice and tomatos but the bacon & chipotle ranch helps balance it out. I don't think much cheese was added. The drinks were solid, blended flavors were perfect.
Service: Our server was good, she got out drinks and food prompty. However, I had called a week ago to make a reservation and I guess who ever answered to take it forgot to put it on bc when we arrive, our names were not on the reservation the day of. We still manage to get a table since it wasn't too busy yet. They don't have an online system and they don't answer on emails so your best bet is to call for reservations.
Ambiance: It was during a 90's event so there was a DJ/music going with crowd going. Pretty loud, I could barely hear my friends while sitting right across and it almost felt like a day club. Some people were obnoiously screaming so if you plan to come during these events, just know it's really really loud.
Location accommodation: Its on green st near the polar park and many other resturants, and businesses are that you can walk around to...
Read moreOctober 19 2024; I got the Hot Honey and Prosciutto flatbread; Chef Zack was able to make this gluten free for me and it was amazing! I’ve been multiple times and he makes me feel safe eating there. There aren’t a lot of places that can pull off making their regular entrees gluten free. The menu doesn’t display there are gluten free options, but DEFINITELY ASK! The chef is always so excited when gluten free is requested. For brunch, he made me their avocado toast with gluten free bread that he personally searches for to buy a specific brand. Another time where I was there I ordered their shrimp and grits with truffle fries on the side. They were able to ensure the fries are used in a separate fryolator. I’m so happy to have found a passionate chef who cares about his clientele.
As for the alcoholic beverages, the espresso martini and the More Life drinks are fantastic. Kaitlin, our bartender, was so friendly and consistent with her cocktails in addition to making sure her customers are satisfied. She has also been the employee to ask the chef for specific gluten free...
