99 Restaurants — Restaurant in Worcester

This letter comes from total disgust, discomfort and disbelief. While dining at the 99 Restaurant located at 50 Southwest Cutoff, Worcester, MA 01604, last night May 25, 2017, we were approached by the Manager, Matt, in a blue 99 button-down shirt. He was so disrespectful and out-of-line, that we could not imagine ever going to that restaurant again. While playing the Stump Trivia event another patron approached my girlfriend to hurl all sorts of insults to her. These included, “liar, cheater” among other names. When I witness this from across the bar area I calmly walked over to see what was happening. This other patron along with 2 other guests he was with started to verbally attack me as well. This was all over the Stump Trivia event. They also (incorrectly) were telling us how many times we went to the bathroom, which they admitted to watching. When Matt, approached the situation to assess what was going on, he told my girlfriend and I to go back to our seat, calm down, and everybody is entitled to their opinions. What Matt did not know was that harassment, threats, slander and liable speech are not opinions that should be allowed in a public, family-oriented situation like this. We did not feel safe any longer due to the negligence of Matt, the manager, and any other staff member who idles stood by and watched the total berating of (paying) customers from other patrons of the same restaurant. This was one of the most appalling situations I have even been part of. The shear facts are that my girlfriend was approached by a much larger male patron, totally harassed, felt threatened, and when I came to the situation to try to resolve an issue, Matt only added fuel-to-the-fire as he sided with them and tried to bully us. Restaurant was short staffed in the kitchen. Waitress was attentive and helpful. The restaurant was not busy, the bar was surprisingly empty.

Had to wait for a long time for the food to arrived, waitress said first the kitchen was short staffed, then a little while later, said waiting for the grilled asparagus to be ready.

Of course when the food arrived obviously it was cold to slightly warm. With poor quality asparagus.

Common sense says bring the food out when it’s ready and bring the slow item later. Usually there is someone monitoring the kitchen counter and coordinating food delivery to the table. The bar was empty with two bartenders idle.

We were very hungry so ate the food. When the waitress asked how everything was - told her the food was cold, didn’t want anything, just to comment so they could improve next time. $5.00 was deducted from the bill.

Have not been to a 99 location in years, not what was expected. Perhaps when the kitchen is short staffed - do not accept phone orders, take care of in restaurant customers?

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE At the end of this review. ...I ordered a 12oz sirloin steak dinner. The rice was good the asparagus was way overcooked but the steak was not good at all it was tough a lot of fat and very tough to chew except for maybe 4 bites. I've gotten a few different meals here and all were good not great but good but this one was not good. Maybe an off night idk. I will go there again. I give all places a fair shot but tonight's meal was definitely not worth the price. Update. The Corporate office of the 99 restaurants reached out to me about my review and Then the manager of this restaurant called me. As I said in my review I give everyone a fair shot everybody has a bad day now and then so I will go back. They gave me a gift card to cover my meal. I will definitely be going back.Very happy they reached out to me. Great customer service. So I finally went back and tried the same meal I reviewed before. I didn't tell them I was coming this time I ate in house. It was great. The New York Sirloin was cooked perfect the asparagus was excellent. Totally happy with my meal now.
