I normally dont do reviews but in this case I had to take the time to review what is being touted as an Upscale Indian place in Worcester.
Lets start with the fact that Bombay BAR and Lounge - does NOT serve Alcohol!!! Getting a liquor license might be a minor detail that probably the owners forgot when they named their place.
While the ambience did not say "upscale" (tiny tables, uncomfortable cafeteria style chairs and a disproportionate but huge mural of Alia Bhatt....), the menu and the prices on the menu screamed upscale. Appetizers in the $12 - $16 range, Entrees in the $24 - $36 range.
The brain said run, but the heart wanted to give the place a chance - what if this place actually had authentic Indian Food. Unfortunately, that was not the case....the appetizers were bad and thats saying it delicately The samosas seemed to have come fresh from the microwave, were tiny and tasted weird The garlic cauliflower seemed to have gone through some special patented process to make them gelatinous and nasty The lamb kababs could have been used as door stops The Kothmir Wadi was unlike any wadi I had eaten in my life and I dont mean that in a nice way
You would think we would have run out at the time... but great company, biting cold weather and our curiosity around how bad could the entrees be made us stay....
And we were not disappointed! The entrees were as bad if not worse than the appetizers The Malvani Fish (their signature dish) was soooooo hard that it was impossible to eat - literally a hunk was left on the table untouched after people had tasted it The Mutton Ghee something something had a great gravy but the meat had hung out with the fish and the kababs and had toughened up significantly! Not to mention that in the 8 pieces of meat that we got - 3 of them were ALL bone The Haka Noodles with Chicken was presented very well in a very fancy dual tray... noodles were ok but the chicken.... yep.. you guessed it - hard and chewy Vegetables were OK - not worth the $24 price tag but at least edible. Same with the Roti and Paratha @ $8 a pop I was expecting something fresh but these looked and tasted like the Indian store roti's heated up
Yes... we did not stop - we actually ordered a dessert (why stop at two courses when you can torture yourself for three!) - I have to say that the Kulfi wasnt quite Kulfi - more like icecream with ice crystals embedded in it to give them a unique high end crunch....
Service was good - cannot blame the wait staff for whatever was happening in the kitchen.
Damage was about $72 per person - yep - without alcohol!!
Needless to say no doggie bags were taken - one would not want to have their dog have to eat such nasty stuff.
Stay at home - eat frozen Trader Joe's Indian Food and you will...
Read moreOn a recent return trip, I was in search of an authentic Indian restaurant. Google suggested "Bombay Lounge Indian Bar & Restaurant," which boasted excellent ratings and reviews. Intrigued, we decided to stop by for lunch and were immediately impressed by the exceptional service, inviting ambiance, and high-quality food.
Our order included Garlic Naan, Dal Makhni, Samosa, Mango Lassi, Kolhapuri Chicken, and French Fries for our child. Each dish was freshly prepared and bursting with flavor. The Garlic Naan was perfectly baked, and the Dal Makhni had a rich, creamy texture. The Samosas were crispy and well-seasoned, and the Kolhapuri Chicken had a delightful, spicy kick that was perfectly balanced.
The Mango Lassi, however, stole the show. Having tried Mango Lassi at numerous places along the East Coast, I can confidently say that the one served here is among the best I've ever had. It was thick, creamy, and had just the right amount of sweetness.
The portion sizes were generous, easily enough to satisfy two people. If you find yourself in the neighborhood and are on the lookout for delicious Indian cuisine, I highly recommend giving Bombay Lounge a try. This place is an absolute must-visit for anyone who appreciates authentic...
Read moreWOW, what a great addition to Worcester! I'm not even sure where to start, but I'll try!
First, the owners did a beautiful job remodeling the restaurant before opening. The atmosphere is lovely and peaceful both in visuals and in sound. 10/10.
Second, the staff was very pleasant and welcoming. They were happy to explain items on the menu, and were attentive to our group's needs. Also 10/10.
Third, THE FOOD. Between the four of us, we ordered a wide variety of dishes and I'm honestly not sure what the best one was (we ended up all trying each other's!). I chose the pan seared lamb chops, which were tender and juicy. They were perfectly complemented by a creamy red sauce on the side (which was also delicious to dip our naan bread in!). Do NOT skip ordering naan! They have multiple varieties from which to choose - - our group opted for the cheese naan, the garlic naan, and the chili garlic naan. They were all delicious. 12/10 on all of the food.
Fourth, they have a great variety of non-alcoholic beverages. I ordered the lychee red julep, which was wonderfully refreshing. 10/10.
My husband and I will absolutely be returning soon - - we are looking forward to adding Bombay Lounge to our rotation of date...
