Came here the other night with my husband because we wanted some pasta and we have been wanting to come here for sometime. Unfortunately our experience was unpleasant to say the least. We started off by ordering two appetizers that never came, we placed our order all at once with appetizers and entrees. Our waitress asked us if we wanted salads while we waited and we had assumed that they came with the entrees we ordered. Come to find our salads were and extra $12-14 on the bill which we didn’t know about. Our entrees arrived and we asked about our appetizers that never came and our waitress apologized for the confusion but we just let it slide since the portions for our entrees was pretty good. Upon having the food it was bland and pasta was subpar. Olive garden could do better. While eating my Gnocchi entree I was chewing on something hard which upon spitting out was basically a piece of industrial kitchen brillo pad (we’ve worked in restaurant service so I know exactly what it was) we told our waitress and she brought it to the manager and they said they were gonna take it off the bill. Both me and my husband lost our appetites (rightfully so) so obviously all our food was sent to the trash because any sane human would not want to keep eating. The manager didn’t even come over to talk to us which is concerning because even at mcdonald’s a manager would wanna speak to us. Anyways we still had to pay for my husbands barely eaten food. They could have easily comped the whole meal given the fact that we were also charged for a stupid salad the size of a small mac and cheese from chic fil a. We both got sick afterwards which never happens to either of us. Probably the worst experience with a restaurant and management (that we never met). The only good thing was our waitress because she was kind and the “sharp turns” signs they have at the entrance and on the way to...
Read moreUsed to love this place but they're definitely stuck in the 'good old days', and I think in decline. They now serve up massive portions swimming in sauce, OK ingredient quality, and they overcook their pasta. At least they did tonight and the last 2 times I've been in. Tonight my fiance got the special: "lobster stuffed gocce and sautéd shrimp in a blush sauce", they did give her plenty of the stuffed gocce (about 20!) but it and the shrimp were drowning in sooo much cheese that I can't see how it's financially feasible for it to be served. When she was done eating the shrimp and gocce the bowl still looked almost full! I ordered the same thing I always get and it was OK. Not as good as the first time I got it. Pasta overcooked. The 'daily homemade gnocci' didn't seem fresh.
I really think they're stuck living in the hayday and memories of the good ol' days of Dino's when it first opened decades ago. Sadly the times, portion sizes, saucing, cooking techniques, and expectations have changed. I really did love this place the first time I came here but I think that somewhere things have slipped. Maybe due to business being slow.
I wish it was either: -Still offering the same, higher quality food/ingredients I experienced my first time here... Which could allow them to keep doing everything the same way as the good old days.... OR, and I think this is the more easily achieved path forwards: -Update their menu, portion sizes (smaller, get rid of those giant dinner plates), and cooking techniques to more modern standards.
Italian is the most competitive cuisine in MA. People have access to some of the best Italian food in the world 45 minutes away in the North End. So something's got to change or I fear we'll see Dino's close its doors for good. I really, truly wish them the...
Read moreWhere to start. My sister & I went to Dino's to eat. A friend of ours gave a good review so we thought we'd try. We get there with reservations for 2. The hostess then tells us to wait just a few moments because where they "wanted" to sit us was already being used. She comes back a few moments later and leads us to our table. She takes us what looked like a back corner of the restaurant where there were only 2 tables, 1 of which couldn't be seen by any of the patrons coming in or out. Super secluded. We looked at each other just knowing what kind of vibes it was going to be but whatever we went to try the food. So we ordered. An app of mussels in marinara and a pear salad. Mussels comes out. Marinara was good. We open up the mussels and they are literally shredding while we are trying to remove the flesh from the shells. Couldn't even enjoy 1 whole mussels. Whatever, we move it on to the salad. Salad , which had pears, walnuts and cheese was better than the mussels for sure. We order our entrees. Which took forever to come out. Only to be disappointed some more. My pan scallops on pasta were bland and dry, even with the wine at the bottom of the plate. All in all. Service. Food. Atmosphere, was not to my liking. Will not be returning. Honestly don't know how they've been in business for 70+ years. Forgot to mention, our waitress was the only good part of our experience. Melissa! Singular waitress in our area, although I couldn't really see if there were more. She did a...
