[For those who are considering this restaurant for the first time based on reviews, know that they offer $5 off if you write a review at your table and show it to the server before cashing out. I imagine this artificially skews the overall reviews. After explaining ours to the server, I figured it warranted a better explanation.]
Foods decent. Certainly not bad. If you were rating the food without ever having eaten Vietnamese food before, you might give it 5 stars. But if you eat a lot of Vietnamese food like we do, you will probably find that some of the dishes get close while still missing the mark. The soup broths here are their shining success. But the Vietnamese coffee is instant versus fresh-brewed — just doesn’t have the same rich flavor. Way too milky. The spring rolls are missing the bright mint element. Quite bland. The server explained that this is because a lot of people don’t like the taste. That’s fine - but again, if you like Vietnamese food, you appreciate it for its bright, unique flavors. I got the pork chop rice plate. The pork chop was tender but the Nước chấm was very heavy on the fish sauce and sugar and lacking some lime. Our server was very apologetic the food didn’t meet our expectations and seemed to welcome our feedback. So, 4/5 for nice, clean atmosphere and friendly staff. 3/5 for authenticity/flavorful cuisine.
(To be candid, we didn’t realize we’d been here before until we walked in the door. Got the banh mi last time — also lacking authenticity and flavor. Wouldn’t have purposely come here a...
Read moreHorribly overpriced place. Below was the chicken soup and the pho. That cost $25 together when you get a few scraps of meat and skimpy noodle portion. The hoisen sauce, the Pho soup was super sickly sweet.
Also the fresh rolls were just lettuce, some sort of noodles, and 2.5 shrimp. YES - they cut a shrimp in half. No basil, no mint, no carrots - literally cheap frozen shrimp you get at wal-mart. Tasteless and awful waste of $9.
I'm going back to Pho Sure where they treat you right and have flavor in the food.
Edit: It took them 5 months to "reply". At this point they see the post is generating views so they finally cared enough. FYI - The food was so bad that even if they paid ME and gave me the food for free, I still wouldn't go back. I have since went back to Pho Sure and have been incredibly happy and I recommend you go there as well and avoid wasting your money here.
PS. Check the pics of their "fresh roll" from others. Even when people gave them 5 stars you can clearly see it's just lettuce and store shrimp. They literally are lying to your face with this response. That should tell you everything you need to...
Read moreSaigon is a hidden gem for authentic Vietnamese cuisine. From the moment you step inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere sets the stage for an exceptional dining experience.
I started with the fresh shrimp spring rolls, which were perfectly wrapped and served with a rich peanut dipping sauce. For the main course, I had the Pho Bo (beef noodle soup)—the broth was deeply flavorful, simmered to perfection with fragrant spices, and loaded with tender beef and fresh herbs. It tasted just like a home-cooked meal straight from Vietnam.
The service was friendly and efficient, with staff eager to offer recommendations. Prices were reasonable for the portion sizes, and the food arrived quickly.
Overall, if you're looking for an authentic and satisfying Vietnamese meal, Saigon is a must-visit. I'll definitely be coming back for more!
Pros: Authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, great service Cons: Can get busy...
