It's a shame that 5* food came with some problematic service. The initial experience seating in the back area with a fountain was characterized by a table that had a gummy sticky top that seemed not to have been cleaned in weeks. Switching to the main dining room our server initials "SK" (the bulk of this review) did familiarize us with the menu and assist us but seemed to have an attitude like we were a nuisance to her. Have you been around someone with a half smile that is fake knowing there is no smile at all---well that's the vibe we got. Despite the food being amazing (gazpacho, corvina, scallops and pork belly and flan) the fake smile became very apparent........

We asked if we could make reservations again for the next night and our server said 845pm was available but only in the back area with the fountains. We said ok. And, on leaving, while the server was cleaning, my wife asked her again to be sure we had those reservations. Though she also noted outside seating was first come first served and we might come at 830 for outside seating, we'd take 845 inside by the fountains.

The next night we called at 835pm saying we were on the way and the person answering said we didn't have reservations. We said we spoke with our server "SK" and she made them for us. Then "SK" got on the phone (on speaker in my car, windows down, the Valet at Trailborn hotel Jake listening) and YELLED at me saying she didn't even have my phone number and we didn't make reservations. (Our reservations for the first night were in their system with my phone number). She literally yelled at me for half a minute I had to calmly ask her to stop yelling and listen to me. Only later did the hostess say look we have some tables so come.

"SK", it's evident you didn't like serving us the first night as if we were an imposition to you and your demeaning attitude the next night was truly unacceptable.

The chefs excel, though the arroz con pollo on our second night wasn't all that good. The chicken was dry and the rice didn't seem the freshest (realizing it was near the end of the night for you). The mango guac was very nice. Perhaps too, it was hard to enjoy a meal after being yelled at on the phone.

My wife and I encourage the owner/chef to go over policies with servers--the first--check the table for two near the fountain---see if it feels clean. Next, advise servers to never yell at a customer.

A simple fix would have been for "SK" to say hey, I'm really sorry I must have misunderstood something. Let me talk to my hostess and we'll figure out a way to handle things. Especially since when we go there at 845pm there were lots of open tables. Even the valet at our hotel was shocked by what he heard on the phone.

Let me do add, that our server Lillian, on our second night was very nice to us and served us well. The key negative of this review related to one server.

In follow up, one of the upper level staff did speak to the owner and they called my wife and I to apologize and say they took our complaint seriously and have addressed it. Her sincerity was evident.

We realize anyone can have an off day or be challenged with life circumstances so my wife and I extend our prayers to the server who treated us the way they did. We pray for your...

My friend and I ate here on a Tuesday evening a few weeks ago. We arrived shortly after 8:00 and were seated outside. It was not very busy at that time and we received our drinks promptly. However, after ordering an appetizer and entrees, it took literally more than an hour before any food came out. Our waitress kept saying the food would be coming out shortly whenever she passed by our table but it never did, and she said this at least three times. Customers at two other tables near us who arrived and ordered after us received their food way before us so that was frustrating. I was about to ask someone about the status of our food when the entrees were finally brought to our table after 9:30. I asked the young woman who had brought our food about our appetizer and she said she would check on it. A few minutes later she returned with our ceviche appetizer and apologized that it was not brought out earlier and said we would not be charged for it. I liked my paella and felt that it was a good portion size for the price, I only wish there was more chicken as I had only three small pieces in the whole dish. My friend got the surf and turf but only got four little pieces of steak. She noted that she enjoyed the fried Brussels sprouts. Our waitress came by and apologized about the appetizer as she thought it had been brought out earlier (although she had checked on us multiple times when we were waiting for food) and reiterated that we would not be charged for it. This was our last night at the beach so were disappointed about our experience at Ceviche’s. We were excited to eat here based on the reviews but would not return if we are in the area again. Would have given only one star but gave two since they comped...

If you are Hispanic and/or if you do not support racism, DO NOT GO HERE.

I brought my family out for dinner here on 6/1. They were visiting from out of town. I had been wanting to try this place since I moved here to Wilmington a little over a year ago, but never got around to it. Well, this past weekend we walked in and we were so excited to try the food since we are Dominican and some of the menu items are our cuisine (for example, sancocho is ours, but this location puts a Panamanian twist to it). We got our appetizers with the “salsa”which was actually pico de gallo, and the elote dip which was quite literally just cold corn that tasted like it was straight from the can. Even though the appetizers were awful, we were still looking forward to the food.

Our waiter looked at us with such disgust every time we asked for something. He wouldn’t even respond to us when we’d ask for things. He’d go grab things and put them on our table and not say a word. He also rushed us to put our order in. Seems like he just did not want to deal with us. We decided to ask for our bill for our drinks and appetizers so that we could get dinner elsewhere. The only decent part of this experience was the manager who came over to apologize to us. She did not make us pay for the appetizers and drinks, which was nice. She tried to get us to stay, but we were far too uncomfortable. Our server was being kind to everyone else except for us. We were the only Hispanics there. I did not expect such an experience from a place that is Hispanic inspired. Take your...

Our experience was good our entrées stole the show they were the best. I believe our appetizers could have been better. Food was fresh flavor was lacking. Out of all the ceviche, I believe the mango was the best one and the picture it’s the one to the far left. The one in the middle to the right was my second favorite then the one beside the mango to the left is my third, and I did not care for the one to the far right it was watery no flavor for me. The empanadas were OK. I probably should’ve tried a different one other than chicken. What made the empanadas good was the sauce to me I like it when a sauce elevates a meal and takes it to the next level. Luckily, the sauce made it good because it was average in my opinion. Now the fried brussels sprouts they will vinegar strong. However, once you take that cashew sauce and mix it well throughout the food, it was actually a perfect pair. I believe they balanced each other out and I actually enjoyed it. We should have ordered an entrée for an appetizer because I thought my dish was good the jerk skewers, the spice and savoriness from the shrimp was amazing and when you pair it with that sweet, savory curry as you can see in the pictures, I couldn’t wait to take a bite. The aroma was calling my name my. Now my date she had seabass and she let me have a bite. I almost told the waiter to bring me another plate of that if you’re looking for a dish to wow you get the Seabass. Sangria was great. I forgot to take a picture of my second drink you can’t go wrong with their cocktails. I will try this place again.

Ceviche’s in Wilmington was a great stop for lunch en route to Kure Beach. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and the place wasn’t busy. For food, we got: Caribbean Fried Oysters: The cornmeal oysters were delectable and went well with the aioli that came with it. Mango Guacamole: Chips and flavorful guacamole with bits of mango in it made for a wonderful snack too. The chili powder on top elevated the flavor too! They were kind enough to restock our chips. Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos: The Mahi-mahi fish was cooked perfectly and the slaw, guacamole and lime crema were added in just the right proportion. It made for an excellent and delicious entree. The accompanying coconut rice tasted fresh. Langoustine Roll: Imagine a soft hotdog filled with langoustine ceviche, fresh arugula and pickled jalapeño—it tasted delicious and was another great entree. The drinks—Fresca ensalada and the Tropical Lightning IPA—provided just the right kick accompanying the meal. We sat on the back patio—which was a bit uncomfortable with the sunlight directly streaming down the glass panes. We realised later that we should’ve sat inside instead. Their other menu items looked interesting and piquant too, ranging from empanadas to soups, salads, and tacos. The Panamanian vibe is in the air too, which is what they rightly advertise themselves as. Restrooms were clean, and parking was available outside. Our server was kind enough to check on us multiple times. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Ceviche’s, and highly recommend it!
