I just want to preface by saying this is the second food review I've ever written. I don't normally take the time out of my night/day to waste the time doing this, unless I genuinely believe it will be beneficial to the next person considering this place. Long story short? Don't consider it. Choose that other option. Atmosphere was fine, but we sat for thirty minutes before we were asked for a drink or welcomed by a waiter - no problem. Placed drinks for our table of for and then proceeded to wait another 30 minutes for them. We decided to put our food in immediately due to taking the chance of having to wait longer. We got the steak and fig bruschetta. I just want to say the "steak" was essentially cold roast beef you'd get at a grocery store.. brushed it off and waited for our pastas. Our pastas arrived and following my hopeful first bite I was immediately let down by cold noodles that were entirely undercooked. My sister got the mushroom mafaldine, and it (I kid you not) tasted like straight up buttered noodles. No spice. No sauce. Nothing. My sister has a hard time asking for things at a restaurant, but felt compelled enough to ask for more sauce. What did she get? Just more mushrooms in butter.. mind you her noodles were legitimately cold. Colder than mine. I'm not picky, and I'll eat almost anything, but when you're paying this much for cold undercooked pasta? That's the problem. Then the female manager asked if everything was okay. We didn't complain and I just asked for the check. She then proceeded to set up a private table in the back for 20+ minutes and completely disregarded us asking for the check and simply bringing it. The waiter had to and I felt bad for him because he implied that there is a lot of complaints he gets from customers at the restaurant about this place. Do yourself a favor and choose that other option. Or go to the ACTUAL folino estate. That place is good all around. Hope this...
Read moreCelebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and we were looking for someplace new. Recommendation if you’re reading this, look elsewhere, many better choices in Berks county. Started with our seating, we were sat at a table where one of the seat was on a couch. I was a foot lower than my spouse with no back support. Very uncomfortable. Asked if I could pull over a chair and was accommodated. Another couple asked the same and the waiter moved them to another regular table, minutes later a hostess approached their table and asked them to move again and they up and left. Apparently they needed that table for a reservation. However there was another table right beside them that remained open the entire time we were there. Our waiter must have been new to the industry as he had very little personality. Never asked if we were celebrating anything special or if we’d been there before. My wife ordered a dish and after checking with the kitchen was told they were out of something for that meal so she ordered another and wasn’t told that it was spicy. Had to ask every time for soda refills. If it’s soda, don’t ask, just bring it. That’s going above and beyond expectations. That’s good service. Nothing better than an attentive server that just shows up with a refill without having to be asked. Asked for parmesan cheese when my dish was served, never came. Worse yet, when he returned to ask if we wanted dessert the light bulb never relit to say “oh my, so sorry I never brought you that parmesan”. I realize they’re new, but they have some customer service training to do. Food was average, nothing special. Serval friends asked prior to us going to let them know how we liked it because they had heard about it being it is new. We’ll be sharing our experience. Made for a memorable 25th anniversary dinner in that we’ll always remember the first time we ate there, and it will be just as easy to remember the...
Read morethe ambiance, homemade noodles, surprising mocktail selections, and wine selections (of course), are about the only things in my experience here that prevented our evening from crossing into total train wreck territory- by an inch! Thus, compelling me to write this review. Our server meant well, but mediocre at best. Our patience was tested throughout. Our specific requests were not followed through, and the service seemed to be lacking in training.
Please note that when a two-top asks for entrees to come out AFTER their appetizers, please DO NOT fill that table with both the appetizers and entrees all at once, unless requested to have everything all at once
We sent back our entrees- then were told they would be placed under a heat lamp until we were “ready for them”. By the time we finished our apps, our meals were not the freshest obviously, but you cant go wrong with homemade noodles- lets be honest here. Unfortunately for the restaurant, I sat with an empty wine glass for the duration of my dinner NOT by choice. Luckily, we were asked numerous times if we wanted a box for our burrata that we were rudely rushed into finishing in the first place. It’s just little things like this that make a major difference in a customers experience, especially for something “upscale”.
Id also like to suggest dimming the big lights above. The design aesthetic is there, but the room is so bright, loud and cafeteria-like when packed with people the way it was tonight. The ambiance could be much more intimate and vibey with a warmer light, especially around those beautiful...
