The Stage Deli on George — Restaurant in York

So I don't want to give a rating because I haven't had a decent opportunity to enjoy what I hear is some GREAT food downtown. But after about 6 months of suggestion and finally having the opportunity to come and try it, I saw what I saw and had to leave. I will just say this.... Cleanliness is EVERYTHING. When employees wear gloves, it isn't to just protect their hands. They cannot just wear gloves, touch rags, touch the sides of ovens, tables, etc....AND THEN go DIRECTLY to build and touch sandwiches and food. This is what I saw. I watched a women who ordered before me and she saw the same thing and looked at me in horror. So, I definitely want to come back and try the food here after this review is addressed. This certainly may have been an isolated incident, and I wonxt just this operation as a whole. And I hear the owner is a really great guy! I am all about buying local and supporting our local business. This is TOTALLY constructive, because EVERYONE seemed very friendly and the food smelled great. But I just couldn't get past the cross-contamination and not changing gloves situation. So here's to giving it another try....down the road...

This place is amazing!! A very friendly woman gave me a coupon as I was leaving lunch on jury duty one day. I had been planning on going to subway, but after getting the coupon and checking out their menu, I realized this would be cheaper and hopefully better. I was not disappointed. The same bubbly, sweet woman was at the counter and she suggested the Reuben, which is my favorite sandwich, so I have high standards… it was absolutely perfect and the fresh squeezed lemonade was beyond expectations. She also let me keep my coupon for next time and gave me a punch card for even better discounts in the future. When I wasn’t selected for a jury, the first thing I told my husband was that I was disappointed I couldn’t get lunch there for the rest of the week. Thankfully it’s near revs stadium and we are avid fans, so our family will go there before games now for our dinner. The atmosphere and the people are almost as amazing as the food. I sent a sandwich platter to my brother and his wife after a family member had passed and they provided the best service I have ever had. The owner was extremely kind and understanding and made everything as easy as possible, including food allergies and I was assured that everything would be prepared separately from any allergens. when the delivery driver saw that no one was home (it was a surprise for my brother and sister in law) I told them that they would be home shortly and that they could leave it there but they insisted on waiting so that they could hand deliver it and offer their condolences to the family. If I were local then they would have my business going forward but I couldn't recommend them enough for anyone who is trying to decide on where they want to...
