We’d never been to the “pink house restaurant!!” All things Spanish themed - Love it 😍 Aesthetics beautiful wood paneling, chairs, booths, even if 200 or more years old so pretty, what that decor and furniture must have seen and gone through just to end up in Ypsilanti, Michigan! Confession, a small insecurity: my past students. When I began teaching in public education, I looked like my students, was often mistaken for my high school students and I even had a twenty year old as a high school student in my class ( of course, more mature, didn’t look his age, fit right in) anyway, our server was a bestie to a past student of mine and she recognized me. Time has been kind to me and my physical appearance, yes I do have high blood pressure and diminished vision and yes forty pounds heavier but I’m working on it. The food, waitstaff and speed of order to our table was good. The crowd was slowly building up so the expectation was hot, fresh and quick with all of the components of the orders. Not! Coffee mediocre. Rule #1, if you cannot deliver a tasty, fresh cup of leaded coffee, you are asking for it. Sadly, my second half filled lukewarm cup did not get poured until we were leaving. Is it a food code violation to reuse the chips? Look no matter what my experience is/was you might have a better or worse one so . . Lettuce - fresh, soft tortilla- fresh, chips - - below average, chewy not crunchy probably stale not sure as the average tasting red salsa covered up any mold or whatever I was digesting with the salsa chips. Also, friendliness does not mean flirting!! More cheese, more sauce, heated and succulent entrees were sadly, not in evidence. Did we eat everything? We had to go containers, so I can take the food home and “ hook it up!” First and last visit to Dos Fuentes restaurant. I am a food critic. I love to travel and I’ve tasted and eaten dishes in New Mexico, Texas, Cuernavaca, Mexico, other parts of Mexico and Spain . If I ever travel to Spain again it will be towards the South. I did not have a good experience in Bilbao. The beaches of France were okay. My palate and tastes were developed early by my mother, who trotted my sis and I all around NYC in the early 1960’s to try all of the varied and wonderful food stands of the day. Tastes, textures, spices and seasonings of any dish are the purview of the cook, better yet, chef. If food is cooked in resentment and haste rather than appreciation and care those vibes too, come out in the food. Some of you know exactly what I’m talking about, anywho love your preparations and cooking of the dishes to be served to your customers. I am always happy to share and contribute to supplement my retirement income. I am one of the lucky 32% of USA citizens that have a retirement. This is one of the sorrows for our elders that only have Social Security (Thank God), if that, or do not have enough. Blessings to you & I am...
Read moreTo preface this review: the restaurant was NOT overly busy and they most certainly had enough staff on hand as a couple of them were walking around doing next to nothing. Trust me I was there long enough, as you'll see in this review.
I put in my order online (Order #: 325951 in case the restaurant cares enough to look it up) around 6:05pm. The online order told me the pickup was 6:30pm. Normally I have an easy give or take 15 minutes with this as online never can judge the foot traffic accurately. However, upon arrival at 6:30pm was told food was still not ready and I was perfectly fine with sitting and waiting. 6:35pm 2 gentlemen walked in and grabbed menus, and started looking through them and placed an order. By 6:45 to 6:50pm their orders were ready and in their hands and they were out the door. Orders that were placed over 30 minutes past when mine was. I also want to cancel the excuse that "well sometimes with big orders they wait to see if it's real," by mentioning that the order was fully paid for online nearly 30min prior to my arrival. When it's paid there is no excuse but to make the food.
After finally receiving my order around 6:59pm no apology for wait was given and the bags were tightly packed and overflowing. I should have checked there and then but when I arrived at home I found a few items missing. Nearly an hour to prepare the food and order and items were still missing.
When I called them I was received with snarky and blatant unapologetic attitude, even after they agreed on the phone that they indeed saw my items and that they were not bagged. I told them I was not driving back in for the items and that this was entirely their fault and with attitude they said I have to go online and request the refund through there. Which is fine, I'm not inept on using the internet, but their complete disregard for accountability and attitude and unapologetic responses made this one of the worst experiences I've ever had. This is not the same attitude from Las Fuente. The new location has gone to their heads. The food isn't as good as it was in the first location either. I'll drive across town for lower rated restaurants before considering...
Read moreThis place has really gone downhill. I used to eat there a few times a month and then I moved and eventually came back to the area. I went a couple days ago and was very disappointed. The prices were raised a lot and portions got skimpy. I paid $14 for carne asada and I received 3 tablespoons of refried beans, 2 pieces of leather- like pieces of steak that were about 1/8" thick and the size of just my palm, 2 tortillas, a cup of lettuce, and a tablespoon of guacamole. What I ordered portionwise was equivalent to a quesadilla at Taco Bell for 3x the price. I would have been more satisfied with Taco Bell, and that's sad. There are much better restaurants with higher quality, bigger portions, for less. I know we went during the last 3 hours of it being open, but staff was not attentive when we needed refills or salsa and only interacted getting our order, bringing it out, and grabbing the check... and we were literally the only customers. Needless to say I'm...
