I had a late breakfast, early last Saturday afternoon. The food was good and the portion size was quite large, so I had about half of my meal left over. I needed a couple of carry-out containers to take my leftovers with me;t was near closing time, and my server was busy, but I noticed some empty containers sitting out. So I went to get what I needed, and then also noticed that some condiment packets were sitting out. So I grabbed a handful of ketchup, but was going to drop just a few in one of the containers and put the rest back in the case it came from. But before I had an opportunity to do so, some random employee began YELLING at me, snidely saying "Absolutely not! That's way too much!"
Startled by this woman's outburst and rude tone of voice, I still did what I'd originally planned and took some ketchup packets and placed the rest back (I actually only took five packets of ketchup, which wasn't much, considering how many tater tots and the amount of omelette that I had left over.). And then, when I additionally grabbed two hot sauce packets, she kept yelling at me. This time she screeched, "This isn't a grocery store!"
Wow, thanks so very much for clarifying that, lady! However, I did purchase food from your place of employment, did I not? And since when do grocery stores sell packets of ketchup? Does this also mean that you won't provide bags for customers to take their leftover food in, since you're not a grocery store?
This woman majorly needs a remedial course in customer service, pronto!! I've worked in both restaurants and retail settings, and I never would have spoken to a customer in that manner or tone of voice! She treated me like I was some homeless bag lady or something, and was just randomly helping myself to the condiments regularly. Well, I'd just spent $20 on my meal and it was the first time I'd ever grabbed any ketchup or hot sauce to take with me, so she needs to get over herself!!
My meal and service were both good that day, but this person completely ruined the overall experience for me and makes me want to never return, because I really didn't need pr deserve to be yelled at over ketchup packets!! She needs to learn how to treat...
Read moreAlright, I've been to a LOT of diners from all over the country (including other foodie havens like Cleveland), and this is hands down my favorite diner OF ALL TIME. Check it out!
The food: Absolutely stupendous. The texture of each dish feels purposeful; e.g., the pancakes are slightly drier so that they can greedily absorb syrup while the French toast is eggy and better without syrup or with only a little syrup. The chicken fried steak has a beautiful, crisp coating that isn't too thick. The tater tots have the perfect contrast between their crispy exterior and soft interior. The French toast (I usually hate French toast) is eggy, moist, and flavorful. The nature lover's pancakes have the perfect amount of crunch from pecans and come in a really plush thickness. The fish and chips are well done (albeit American style) and have a thinner (but still scrumptious) coating. The corned beef hash was wonderfully moist and well seasoned (and not too salty!). The coffee (which I drank black) is straightforward, robust diner coffee, but it's not harsh or bitter like some diner coffees can be.
The portions/value: Great value. The portions are huge (my sister, my mother, and I managed to split two plates and still feel stuffed--we split a corned beef hash and single nature lover's pancake). The quality and amount of food you get for the price is great, especially by Ann Arbor/Ypsi standards.
The atmosphere: what a great way to start a morning with your family! I'm not usually enraptured by airplanes or WWII memorabilia, but even I was charmed by the numerous airplane models and rosie decor! The staff was super...
Read moreFirst, OMG!!! The bill, what a wonderful surprise for three at brunch. When my daughter brought the bill back, I was happily shocked. We recently had brunch at a Leo’s Coney Island on MI Ave., maybe Canton way and the bill was between $27 - 31!! The waitress was cool and food was okay, but the total seemed over priced, even with all of the horrible stuff going on in the world!! Back to historic, great cooks, hot food and good coffee: Bomber cafe. My admission is that this is only the second time I’ve eaten here - shame on me. My country skillet with layers of sausage, gravy, potatoes, eggs and topped with real cheddar cheese was tasty and excellent. Fresh baked biscuits and French toast, crisp, flavorful and just right. No, you didn’t have to worry about extra flour powder nor a dry piece of bread. Do I have it going like that where I can afford to go out to eat? Yes, a little bit but I am blessed to do so, make no doubts about that. Do I have debt? You bet your a** I do, but, you must make time to treat yourself in all the little ways that you are able. Secret: I love to cook when I am not rushed. Fresh ingredients, blessed veggies, fruits you name it, once again our choices are a blessing and never a guarantee so please contribute to food banks and the less advantaged. Our food was on jam. We were all pleasantly happy, leaving with “to-go” boxes and full...
