I drove past this place so many times and finally went for the first time tonight!
Atmosphere: besides the obvious tomatos, there's tons of nostalgic decorations. The music was from all the classics like Frank Sinatra, etc. Dim, low key, generally quiet and not super busy, just the way i like it.
Service: good service; Mary did a good job keeping up with me on refills and surprised me with my entree while i was still on my appetizer. I noticed the same service being provided by other servers. Food was there before too long of a wait. My left overs were boxed for me.
Cleanliness: the restaurant was clean and well organized. Servers appeared well groomed and clean. The mens room could have used a quick pick up, but nothing major.
Taste and presentation: the food was downright awesome! I had garlic wings with ranch for an appetizer and pasta with shrimp, sausage and chicken. First off, the wings were easily some of the best i ever had, but I'm not much of a wing person so take it with a grain of salt... no pun intended. The ranch wasn't all runny either. Came on a ceramic skillet with a lettuce bed. Pasta was good, all the meats in it were good and correctly cooked. The garlic and garlic bread was good. It came with a lemon and kale garnish. The unsweetened iced tea was a tad bit strong, which i like anyway.
Value: wings, pasta, garlic clove, garlic bread and iced tea came to almost $30. Not too bad for one person to eat a great meal, be full, and take most of the main course back home. After reviewing the menu however, i could see how some people would think that some items are on the pricey side. My opinion, its not THAT much more, and the quality of the food is well worth it. If i would have had a date, i probably would have taken her to McDonalds tho. That dollar menu life! There's also a bar that looks pretty nice, however i was hungover during my visit and did not go :( i hear the happy hour is worth it though.
I'll definitely be back to get those wings again and try...
Read moreFor the first time, after years of frequenting Dancing Tomato, we were served by a young lady so inept in her job.....I actually became angry. There are obviously times when an establishment is overwhelmed, while servers are doing their upmost to accommodate the patrons. Especially if it’s approaching closing time. I understand, as well as show patience for their endeavors. This was not the case last night. We were the only table occupied in the dining area off the bar the other dining area was also not crowded. We had a party of 6. My husband and I were the last to arrive. We waited a ridiculous amount of time before even being offered drinks. Then she left for another ridiculous amount of time before taking our order. She never returned to ask if any condiments were needed. She also forgot to bring a salad and as an afterthought brought it with the main course. I had to search out another individual for napkins, water/soft drink refills. We were left with empty dishes infront of us, while the elder couple with us continued their meal. We were not asked if we wanted coffee, desert etc..... Before receiving the check. I promptly took it to the counter and explained that we did indeed have the worst service experienced to date. The bill was returned by the hostess, at which time I asked for boxes be provided for the elder couple whom hadn’t any time to digest their salad as it was served with their entrée. I not only expressed my dismay with the service on our tag, I did not leave this young lady a tip. My husband and I always tip generously! Therefore, it was an unhappy first in our 30+ years together. I did not feel she should in any way be rewarded. I will not state this young ladies name as I don’t want to publicly humiliate or brand her. However, she will recognize her the evening described, aa it was...
Read moreThis is a great family owned restaurant. Hard to find non-chain restaurants in the area. But I wanted to try this place as I am new to the area and we took my mom, husband, and my newborn baby. It has a very dated decor, but it is very cute Iin my opinion as it is like a grandma's decor.
Anyways the food was really good and so were the cocktails. We ordered the meatballs and creamy polenta as an appetizer which was really good! I had the spiced butter shrimp with fettuccine, my husband had a chicken penne pasta, and my mom had a tortellini dish. Both my husband and I really enjoyed our dishes. The tortellini dish needed some more flavor, maybe some season salt or something. And fresh basil to go along with thw tomatoes. It wasn't bad, just lacking a little flavor. We all got garlic bread with our dishes which was really yummy and great to sop up our sauce from our dishes.
The cocktails were really good. I thoroughly enjoyed the bloody Mary! Spicy, with a nice sweet and salty rim on the glass. And of course tasty pickled goodies to snack on as you enjoy your drink. My mom loves lemon drops (especially raspberry ones) and they had lemondrops on the menu, and were able to make a raspberry one for my mom. She can be pretty picky about her lemondrops, and she LOVED the raspberry lemondrop that was made so much, she had 2 more!
Husband had a carribean coconut cooler which had more pineapple flavor than coconut, but it was still tasty. He also had something with blue curaçao, lemonade or somethjng like that, and tea. I can't remember the name but it was also very good.
This is a place I would definitely take people to who are visiting us and want to treat them to some tasty food that...
