Starting with the unpretentious, relaxed atmosphere close to the ocean, El Italiano is an ideal place for a delicious culinary experience. My wife and I visited this past weekend while vacationing in Montevideo. It was her suggestion to go, and I am so happy she mentioned it. The staff were very friendly and helpful, as well as many being bilingual. That was a great help, as we both lack Spanish proficiency. Helping us to identify the meal we wanted based on online photos was service above and beyond. The food itself was impressive. We had a thick and savory seafood stew, absolutely loaded with shrimp, calamari and mussels in a rich tomato-based sauce. Bread served with creamy garlic butter made the perfect accompaniment and was great for dipping in the sauce as well. We have healthy appetites, and though they had some beautiful desserts on display, we were unable to partake due to being completely full after the dinner. Overall, a wonderful and memorable experience that we will cherish as we continue our global travels.

Great location near the sea, average interior, male washroom in rather poor condition. Service of seemingly recently employed person refreshingly friendly and efficient. Before meal offered bread cold, unappealing and tasteless. 'Ensalada Completa' large, without touch of freshness or crunchiness. The very generous portion of Wok salmon OK, accompanying vegetables overcooked. Fried shrimps with teriyaki sauce: breaded crumbs outside appealing, warm and crunchy; shrimps inside undercooked and cold. Highlight of todays lunch was the 2017 Emilia Nieto Senetiner Malbec from Argentina. Altogether a mediocre experience in a great location; not recommend for foodies. (As often the case in 'fancy' places where they add a completely invented 'cover charge' the waiter asked to pay the tip in cash and not to add it to the card payment... "store policy")

Went on a windy cold winter night. Atmosphere was very classy. Service was excellent, wine was delicious. We asked for a selection so we can try a few things and our server helped us pick the perfect combination. The octopus was once of the best I ever had, the fried calamary was the best I've had, and the fish was perfectly done. Coffee and desert followed. The flan and dolce de leche was great the other two cakes were a bit too frozen, but we enjoyed them nevertheless. My friends who were local said three places is great during nicer weather with sitting out side, but plan on sinners wait for a table. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The ambiance, service, and seafood quality was wonderful. We ordered the Sinfonia del Mar, paella, and pulpo a la gallega. The octopus of pulpo a la gallega and calamari of Sinfonia del Mar were terribly overcooked and led to nearly all of the calamari being left uneaten; the flavor of the octopus was phenomenal and made it far more edible. The flavor of the paella was enjoyable, but mussels and clams overcooked; the calamari within the paella was perfectly cooked. The assorted, grilled fish within Sinfonia del Mar was by far the best portion of the order. Delicious, well-cooked, and seasoned fresh fish.

Overall, I would likely not dine here again as the inconsistency of cooking the same seafood via different methods yields such widely different results. In my opinion, a restaurant specializing in seafood should have better control and consistency. That said, I could have likely voiced my concern with the server but feel it would have come across as nitpicky and trying to get a free meal due to issues with every item. Service was spectacular, wine options delicious, and prices slightly higher than others of similar...
