Please, just avoid this money-thirst tourist trap.
There are times you read about negative reviews online and it turned out to be a much better experience, well, this is not that place. All the negative reviews were truth and I should have listened.
The restaurant was nearly empty when I arrived, the waiter still managed to get the orders wrong. Ordered green noodles ended up having the normal one. Salad came the last after chased it up at least twice. Of course they forgot all about it but at least was fresh.
Kebabs were seriously hideous. The chewiest and driest I have ever had in Uzbekistan and tasted like vinegar for no reasons. I bet they were not freshly grilled whatsoever. Either that or extremely poor quality of meat, but still, it doesn’t explain the bizarre vinaigrette taste.
Paid the bill, magically there were two noodles in the system rather than one. Had to ask them to take one off. Then the salad was supposed to be 15000 ( I was somehow shown the old menu, of course) but was charged 20000 according to the “new menu”. Complained, no one gave a shit and the grumpy man cashier insisted to charge 20000. No apologies no nothing, also they looked at me be like “Yes I am ripping you off and what are you gonna do about it?” 5000 som is nothing, but it’s never about the money it’s about the attitude. If they at least apologised for it, I would have happily paid for it. But no. They just assumed you stop complaining and pay for the new price.
Oh yeah, just to top it off, it’s cash only. In a size of this kind of establishment, who does that? To make it even better, there is also a 15% service fee for absolutely trash service just to rub it in your face.
Seriously tourists, avoid it at all costs. I came here thought it’s less touristy/more authentic, but ended up getting ripped off/worst food more than being at a touristy spot.
If I were you, I would recommend you take your hard earned cash to other tourist traps that are at least located in the old town centre with views and atmospheres. And if you seriously insist, DO NOT ORDER SKEWERS and remember to...
Read moreI hate giving bad reviews. I’ve always been a public praise, private critique type of person. However this restaurant really disappointed me with its food. I ordered 3 lamb shashliks, bread, a beef flat bread, and a tomato salad. The salad came out and was decent and then things went downhill. The shashliks were cold and dry, the last piece of lamb meat I had was so tough that I couldn’t swallow it and had to pull it out of my throat. Took a pic of it. The bread I had to ask again for and it was dry as well. It wasn’t even the typical Nan you would get but an assorted variety that I would never thought they’d serve at an Uzbek restaurant. My final dish came only after I asked for it again, again it took longer than expected. The meat flatbread pocket was actually warm and pretty good so I’ll give them that. The tea I ordered was also good. Lastly, their credit card machine wasn’t working, is that typical for all of Khiva? Anyways I hate to say it but for the money I paid this was probably the worst meal I’ve had in Uzbekistan. Maybe it was just an off day for them, but things just didn’t...
Read moreGo eat here if you’re after the same food quality you’d find in the Ichan Qalʼa historical center, but at more affordable prices. Just a 3-minute walk from the city walls.
The staff is warm and welcoming. Our waitress, Guylur, was lovely, even with basic English, she went out of her way to assist us with a smile.
The place has a quirky charm: it’s a kitschy round pavilion on a pond, vaguely shaped like a yurt, and somehow echoing Soviet modernism. Add some Uzbek pop music in the background and you’ve got a truly...
