For the first time in my life I left a meal mostly uneaten and went to another restaurant. Usually I can at least get full enough on fries or something.

  1. The food was awful: My fish smelled gross and was mushy. The batter on it was too salty (and my normal complaint is that nothing is salted enough). The chips were dry and flavorless. They had no salt or seasoning and salt wouldn't stick to them. The insides of the fries were like powdered mashed potatoes. I'm guessing either they didn't soak their fries properly or they are low quality frozen fries that have been in the freezer too long.

My partner's baked fish was also inedible. She was able to eat the salad at least.

  1. My main waitress was nice enough, I asked for a bottle of water for my partner and I and then also a second bottle of water with a bowl for my dog. She didn't understand so she brought who I think was the manager or and I explained it to her and she said okay but then we got our water and there was no extra thing for my dog to drink so I ask for another cup which she brings me. We are sitting there talking and the woman who I think is the manager comes out, takes the cup and says the dog isn't allowed to drink out of it. Fine, then just give me something to let my dog drink from. She says no, nothing for dogs to drink out of... So I tell her we are going to leave then because I paid for water for my dog and explicitly said what it was for. When we start to pack up she comes out with a paper cup. Interesting so she DID have something, she just didn't want to give it to us until we threatened to leave.

If dogs aren't welcome that's fine, but the staff were friendly to my dog. Our waitress was petting it. So it didn't seem like she wasn't allowed.

Maybe she's just sad that she has to work at such a trash restaurant.

Photos are how much I started with and how...

Had the most wonderful meal at Old Town Bar and bistro. There’s so much choice, from traditional Vietnamese to western staples as well as some good fusion in between. I went for sea bass in Vietnamese sweet and sour sauce- it was stunning.

Pork filled fried Spring rolls as a starter were also beautiful. Portions are a good size and I left totally stuffed and all for £6

The owners are brilliant, very friendly and accommodating of any changes you need to make (like I wanted noodles instead of rice)

They also have a good range of wine, spirits and lager and Visa/MasterCard are welcome

I totally recommend you try them out while...

After trying quite a few eateries in the area, many were amongst those recommended under "Best 10".... and suffering from upset stomach, bad tasting dishes, we've finally found this gem hidden in a back street near the walk bridge. Tastes great, done right and onplace, attentive service and priced right. What else could be said? just skip all local so called Vietnamese food restos and come home to a decent place where you won't feel sick after that. Hoi an is no place for...
