Stopped by Cộng Cà Phê this morning and it was a really interesting experience.

This branch is located right beside the river, which makes it a great spot to chill and people-watch with a coffee in hand.

The first thing that hits you is the theme — the whole café is designed to look like something out of the wartime era.

It’s got an army-style interior, with staff dressed in what looks like vintage Viet Cong soldier uniforms, old-school décor, army green tones, and even propaganda-style posters on the wall.

Turns out, this is all intentional — Cộng Cà Phê was founded back in 2007 and is themed around Vietnam’s subsidy period (1976–1986).

The name "Cộng" itself is short for Cộng Hòa Xã Hội Chủ Nghĩa Việt Nam, which means the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

I ordered their Vietnamese coconut coffee and also tried the ice blended version — both were pretty solid. The coconut coffee especially had a smooth, rich taste that stood out.

That said, a heads-up: the place is small and cosy, and because it's popular with both locals and tourists, it can get pretty noisy during peak hours.

But that’s also part of the charm — you’ll see those classic low stools and small tables lining the street, something that’s very Vietnamese.

It’s a unique local vibe that makes you feel like you’re part of the city’s rhythm, even if just for a coffee break.

If you're in Da Nang and want something a little more than just another café, Cộng Cà Phê is worth a visit — both for the coffee and...

One of our favorite places to get coffee in Vietnam.

To start, the staff are really friendly and speak good enough English. And I don't know why but it's nice to see a coffee chain not have 'perfect' interior and that blends in with the other local restaurants and cafe. At first I actually thought that it was just a local cafe until we saw others around the city 😂.

But now let's talk about the coffee there, I honestly thought it was a little expensive compared to other places but the coffee there is really something else. I like the fact that it actually tastes like coffee; I don't know how to explain it but in other cafes the coconut washes out the flavor of the coffee and it doesn't end up tasting like coffee but here there's a perfect balance of coffee and coconut. Then another thing I like the straws that come with the coffee.. I don't know why I just like the fact the straws are made of paper and not plastic or something it fits well with the ' homemade and natural' vibe the place has...

And then another thing, matchboxes! For some reason in a lot of coffee shops in Vietnam they sell matchboxes. I for one think it's a fun souvenir to bring back home: it's small, cheap and unique to Vietnam/coffee shops there. The design of the matchboxes in Cong Cafe, like everything else about the place fits very well the aesthetic.

Overall I think the place is great, we go there pretty often to enjoy the coconut...

I've been to multiple other Cong Caphe locations and really liked them, but this location is really bad.

We ordered 2 coconut milk with coffees one tall, one short and a croissant. About 3 minutes after ordering a couple sat down next to us and ordered a short coconut milk with coffee and a tall chocolate.

They got their order within minutes.

This is when we started to notice the service here.

We waited 10 minutes to get one tall coconut milk with coffee. About 3 minutes more for the croissant and received our coconut milk with coffee 19 minutes after. We know this because our receipts have the order time on them.

The entire time, there were 3-4 servers standing at the bar socializing with each other.

Unfortunately, in the end, the drinks were only okay too.

We asked a staff member "Why so long?" She said "Sorry sorry" and rushed away. I understand that English may not have been a comfortable language for her, but couldn't she have sent someone over? This cafe is absolutely full of tourists. I'm sure there is at least one staff member who can speak simple or basic English. This could have been easily addressed.

If you are in Viet Nam, its worth it to go to Cong Caphe, but I'd give this location a miss. At least until management figured out their...

Beverage : super delicious. We ordered mung been coconut frappe and coco coconut frappe. It took a long while though prior to receiving the drinks. ( so be prepared to wait). However, given the amount of customers, it was understandable plus the taste made it worthwhile. Atmosphere: bit hectic at first. Yet, once we got seated, it was nice and cozy. The interior design is very pretty and antique-like, which matches the staff members' costumes. Service: staff members were very friendly. Even though not fluently, they could speak and understand basic ,multiple languages i.e. Korean, Thai etc. They were polite and well groomed as well. Menu is all in Vietnamese; however, it is easy enough to use your phone to translate them. I highly recommend the mungbean coconut frappe. Mind you, if you are not sweet-toothed, you might wish to order lower sweetness. P.s. they are pet-friendly too : )
