We went to this steakhouse on 22 December 2016. Food was good. We ordered lobster & crab soup, grilled salmon and lamb chop. The waiter first served us with the house bread which was good, but then for the lobster soup, the waiter didn't help to split into two bowls. We asked for it but they seems can't understand.
The Lamb Chop was really nice, very juicy and the portion is large. Would be much better if they could serve with mint jelly. (we asked for but they do not provide) The Mash-potato served with the Salmon was awesome! At last, the restaurant provided us two glasses of home-made Caramel Liquor shots (free-of-charge). Not sure about how they mix it but it tastes like Baileys.
The disappointing issue is.. The bill was about 1.8 million Vietnamese Dong. We do not have enough Dong as Cash therefore we originally would like to pay by card. Unfortunately, the card machines were not working on that night suddenly and the manager said we could settle the bill the next day but we lived a bit far from the district. As a result, we asked to settle the bill by USD. (which is usually acceptable in medium-large size restaurant in Viet). The waiter agreed and issued another bill, which charged us USD180 -- this charged USD100 more than the usual rate we had in other restaurants/ souvenir shops/ hotel. we were SHOCK to see the bill with double price after converting from Dong to USD. To be fair, it would be still acceptable if they give us a rate at 1:20 (normally 1:22 to 1:22.3), BUT NOT 1:10. That is obviously robbing and all in all, it's not our fault that their card machine went down. Luckily a Korean tourist dine next to us is willing to exchange Dong with USD for us (at rate of 1:22.3). We are very thankful about that! thanks Oppa!
Although the food was good, the misbehavior/ misconduct of the waiter made this dining experience a terrible one. Tourists should be treated fairly. El Gaucho,...
Read moreReally annoying manager who's shouting & barking to her staff!!
First at all it's my second time eating here and I can share with the food is great nothing to say about it. It's one of my best time's to have great steak grilled perfectly!
However as they run with foreigner managers (Young Philippine woman) and one thing my wife are not coming back is of the annoying why the are managing the restaurant.
When we are enjoying our food, one of the staff is called very rudely and get public a correction from here as she was not able to answer a question of a guest on the table.
All shouting & barking to here about teaching here good customer service, how impolite to do this where everyone is able to follow this conversation.
I can share with you we lost our appetit and asked for the bill to checkout! We are in hospitality our self, my wife is Vietnamese and I' Dutch living in Vietnam for over 11 years. If you are running hospitality like this it's a shame for the business!
El Gaucho owners if you are thinking to hire foreigner managers to run your business, you should select them very carefully. In this way we don't do hospitality, it's the second time and I found it very annoying where I come as a client to enjoy my food and hospitality and I'm not looking for a military command restaurant where managers think they shout public to there team. How unprofessional attitude!
A pity to see! The Vietnamese team is very attentive friendly...
Read moreIf you really want a decent steak, this is not it. Either go to another restaurant or order something else besides steak. I came in for Australian ribeyes and they didn't have it. That should have been my first clue, a steak house doesn't have steak, but I was desperate for a steak. So I ordered USDA prime cut ribeye medium rare. About 20 minutes later, I got a quarter-inch-thick steak well-done. I told the waiter I asked for medium rare, so he apologized immediately and sent the steak back. I saw them taking a new steak out of fridge and cooking it. Not more than 5 minutes later, I got another quarter-inch-thick steak rare. First of all, the steak is definitely not prime cut. It is more like USDA select. The steak was not seasoned properly so it is literally tasteless. The grill wasn't hot enough because the steak wasn't seared and had no flavor. It looks as if it wasn't grilled at all, more like it was boiled. It was about the same quality as you would get from a frozen steak TV dinner. And it was more than $60 with no sides. $60 is pretty expensive in US, but it is really expensive in Vietnam where you can get a real Phô for less than $2. The waiter asked me whether I want steak sauce and that should have been my second clue because if you are serving good steaks who needs sauce. May be this is the place you want to bring people to impress them, but for the love of god, do NOT come...
