Clean, modern, well appointed!
Stayed 9 nights in April 2024. Hotel is well located in the southeastern side of Hoan Kiem Lake. It is a bit further from the Old Quarter (about 15 mins walk) but we took Grab which was very affordable to get places each ride about $2-5. There is a Circle K a couple minutes away and plenty of coffee shops and food places nearby (within 5 mins walk).
This hotel is relatively new (couple years old) so the exterior and interior are in very good shape. There is no damp or musty smell anywhere (common with older hotels in Vietnam). Lighting is excellent.
The staff at the front desk are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They greet you when you leave and return and are helpful with answering questions for you. We also exchanged our currency for Dong with them at reasonable rates. Ms. Chip and Ms. Gia were truly terrific and always worked together on the evening/night shift.
We had booked the Luxury Double Room (269 sq ft) but got upgraded free of charge to the Executive Double Room (344 sq ft) as we had a toddler as well. This was room 201 and was excellent. I highly recommend booking this room and not the standard size rooms. I saw one and they are significantly smaller in size. The room we stayed in was bright, spacious and had plenty of space to unpack luggage, etc. I do wish there was like a coffee table or something but we made do.
The windows faces the alley below but it was not a sketchy alley at all. In fact, in the mornings there are some food stalls that set up. It is also relatively well insulated so there was not much noise. You can still hear cars honking etc, but the road this hotel is situated is not that busy (unlike in Old Quarter).
The room was clean, items were in good condition and not worn out. Bedding was soft and white with no stains. Linens and towels were white and were all clean and has no smells.
The bed was a little bouncy/springy and not padded enough but we slept with no issues. Pillows were well filled and not lumpy.
Furniture including furnishings like the desk, nightstands and bathroom mirror were all modern. Room has a mini fridge which worked very well (very cold) and had no smells inside. There was a safe in the room but it's kind of a joke. It's not bolted down and you can literally pick it up as it weighs no more then 15 lbs.
Contrary to the 2 other previous reviews, our shower had excellent water pressure and temperature. I'm assuming that perhaps they had some issues that day with water pressure as we had a day where our hot water came out slightly yellow. We were told they had some work done on the rooftop water tank. This issue was resolved the following day though. The shower is also massive. It's about the size of a US twin size bed, if not bigger.
The AC in the room was most excellent. Temperature was easy to adjust and was central AC which meant it was quiet. The elevator however was not well air conditioned and was often very stuffy and hot. The main lobby area also seemed to have varying days where there was AC running so often it was also quite hot.
Wifi connection was excellent throughout our stay.
There was free breakfast included in our room cost and it was pretty good. There is fresh local fruit, yogurt, breads, croissant (which was delicious), bacon, sausage, fresh made to order eggs, and local Vietnamese dishes like beef pho (pho bo) and spring rolls. Dishes were clean. The bad thing I would note is that the breakfast area was very hot. The door to the exterior terrace was always opened and hot air was coming in. The AC was also not set to cold enough temperature. There were also a lot of fruit flies buzzing around the buffet area. The drinks (water and juice and milk) were all room temperature which was a bit off-putting to me. I wish they added ice to it.
Overall this was an excellent choice for us.

Read moreWe booked this through booking. Com on the strength of the reviews. As it was are first time in Hanoi. With a 10% discount from booking. Com we paid 74 dollars a night for three nights to include breakfast. The hotel was very clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I booked the kings room. But it was very small with a huge bed which took up a lot of room. And I kept knocking my shins as I walked around the room. The bathroom was a nice size with all the usual cleaning goodies and towels The shower was in the bath so for anyone who has difficulties in climbing into a bath. Then please take note. Also there was only a shower curtain to stop the shower water but this proved inadequate as shower water still got onto the bathroom floor. Pehaps a little more thought shoukd have gone into this when building the room. Also I think it shoukd state that it is a shower bath. So people like myself would know prior to booking this room. The TV did not operate properly. As after a long day touring its nice to go back to your room have a shower and Pehaps chill and watch a movie. But that was impossible.. As the TV did not work. I called room service and a guy came along not dressed in uniform. Very inpatient he played with the remote control and then turned round spoke to my wife in Vietnamese and said all channels were blocked and left the room.... 😢 I tried to log into my Netflix account but it wouldn't allow to. So for three days no tv. They state super fast WiFi.. I think not as I couldn't even open my google using there WiFi.. I resorted back to my 4g mobile data. Which I Coukd actually open my Netflix account on. So as regards to entertainment and WiFi I'm sorry but a very poor let down. Not impressed at all on how we were looked after as regards to your maintenance man. Breakfast was intresting. Very limited selection. There was pasta. Bacon. And noodle soup. Eggs were cooked to order... But the crossiants were all cut up into small pieces???? Why.... Coffe was cold. It was a very simple breakfast woukd have liked a bigger selection considering your paying 74dollars,a night. One other warning we booked a taxi through the hotel to pick us up from the hotel. Cost 20dollars.we booked a taxi to takes us back to the airport through the hotel cost 15 dollars... Very strange. Also we booked a day excursion to ha long bay through the hotel. Cost 120dollars. When we went out on are first evening we wanted to book another excursion for another day. We went to a local travel shop. And booked a further day to the caves at a cost of 50dollars.when we told them about are trip to ha long bay through the hotel.. For exactly the same trip with hercules travel it was 50 dollars... So my advise is take a, walk to a local tour shop you just might save money But to sumerise the hotel was very clean. Very helpful staff except the maintenance guy. Who I just think wanted to go home..... For us it felt more like a guest house and not a 4 star hotel. To expensive for what they were...
Read moreWe stayed at Hotel de Rond for three nights and after this experience, are confused why the reviews are so good. There are certainly some positives: recently redone rooms which are cute Comfortable bedding Friendly front desk staff The location is very good. We could walk just about everywhere from here.
However, you can tell the renovation was very superficial. There aren’t enough plugs in the room: only one on each side of the bed so I had to choose between charging my phone and having the lamp on.
The towels were basically rags. The ones we were provided on our last day there literally had fist-size holes in them (!!). Bath mats were frayed.
The windows are not double pane so you hear all the noise from outside. The traffic noise was bad enough, but we happened to be here around the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese independence. A worthy celebration, don’t get me wrong. But we were woken up every morning at 7:30am sharp by recordings of children’s choirs singing odes to Ho Chi Minh being blasted from public speakers across the street. This isn’t the hotel’s fault, but they should have windows that filter noise in a way that don’t make you question whether the speakers are actually hidden somewhere in the room.
Breakfast was also not great. I saw another review saying they served spaghetti for breakfast and thought it was some ignorant traveler referring to noodles. But lo and behold on day 2 there was some sad, soggy spaghetti bolognese on offer. They allegedly make eggs but no one offered this to us.
Overall cannot really...
