There is no hotel on earth that can possibly compete with the aesthetics, opulence and attention to design detail (Bill Bensley) than the Capella Hotel in Hanoi. It is simple to see why Travel and Leisure Magazine voted it the top hotel in the world. Each of the 47 rooms is entirely different, with unique murals by Vietnamese artists adorning many of the walls. A stunning plaster relief is visible throughout each floor, along with others strategically appearing throughout the hotel. Whether it’s one of the hundreds of silk lighting fixtures, paintings by Kate Spencer, unique upholstery/wall patterns, hundreds of theatre/opera costumes and memorabilia arranged throughout or something as seemingly simple as a brass Deco door handle, each glance around the corner at this beyond palatial place promises to take your breath away. I am unaware of a term for the 3-D zigzag relief pattern that is a theme throughout almost every aspect of the building, from the entrance to the wainscoting to the bathtubs, but all of the attention to detail was not lost on this guest! The gym, pool and spa area are in the top percentile of any hotel in which I’ve ever stayed. Just like every single room has its own personality, so does each carefully selected staff member. Dennis, the general manager has created a dynamic of adventure and fun in this decadent destination (where being a diva is strongly encouraged!!!) Upon our arrival at the Capella (of course, through the bar), we were warmly greeted by Thao, one of the “culturists”. It was literally like walking into someone’s home and sitting in their living room which is exactly where we ended up. With each day during our one week stay, Thao continued to be a wealth of information and took care of every single detail or need from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. It took much less than one week to absolutely fall in love with her. If she happened to be with other clients, Kim (Diva photographer!), Hang Ha or countless others were readily available to help. Breakfast served as both breakfast and lunch for us with offerings from raw oysters to Vietnamese specialties. There are numerous vegan/flexitarian choices with my favorite being the vegan pho. Breakfast would never be the same without Daniel the Diva or Hue filling us in on everything from food ideas to things to do. Cocktail hour was not to be missed with live music, superbly, crafted cocktails and always a grand entrance by a diva. Nghia and others became more than living room hosts, but friends, as they served the cocktail of the night or whatever our choice. (Please save my diva dress for next time and I will remember to bring appropriate shoes!) So many evenings after happy hour, we opted to dine in-house , and enjoyed each Capella restaurant, including the newest Michelin star rated Japanese, Kiko. Each has fabulous chefs with service to match. Amidst all there is to do in Hanoi, it’s a bit scary, because the longer we stayed there, the easier it was to “drop out”, not really wanting to leave! (When we did leave, Duc was always there to warmly see us off or greet us when we returned.) Our housekeepers continued to keep our well appointed room and bar in impeccable order. Turndown service always had a special treat waiting whether a French pastry, a bowl of fruit or a small gift next to the bedside. The hotel’s sustainability efforts are applaudable with glass bottled water sans any plastic throughout. Photos of this hotel cannot come close to being here. Photos also could never capture the hearts and distinct personalities of each staff member. I loved that Capella has an array of distinct staff personalities that remain 100% professional, but are unique and interesting, just like the Capella. I’m grateful to have been able to visit for a week, and hope to be lucky enough to return. Thank you Capella team for the experience of...
Read moreThere are a total of forty-seven hotel rooms. Designer Bill Bensley has integrated opera elements into every detail of the hotel. The corner of the performance area on the first floor separates the open bar from the stage, and the backstage is an all-day restaurant. The dazzling grid ceiling and opera stage scenery, rehearsal stage, dressing room, retro dresses, and dozens of old objects from the French colonial period are all available. Each floor has its own theme of artists, designers, musicians, etc., and even each room has masters of corresponding themes and dramatic scenes of different styles. Overall, it is a medium-sized hotel. It is stunning at first glance. The service details are in line with the price. The selection of spare parts is also in large bottles, which is quite satisfactory. The non-alcoholic mini bar is free and refilled every day. The living room has free afternoon tea, free wine of all kinds in the evening, and all-inclusive snacks. It is worth it from a cost-effective perspective. The surrounding area is an absolutely rich area with various luxury shops. There is a night-time ceremony in the evening. After turning down the bed, It comes with an eye mask and a small gift, and the data cable will be buckled with a leather buckle for you, and the small details are still full.Capella Hanoi's glorious Koki Japanese food on the B1 floor this year received 1 star. It has only 14 seats and offers a set similar to Omekase. The price is relatively expensive (basic evening set is 5,500,000/person and 8,500,000/person). Reservations can be made by email in advance on February 14 Dinner arrived at 6:30 and it was almost full. The menu is fixed and there are not many choices, but the products are very good. The basic set meal we chose, the first is two kinds of clam teppanyaki, the second is the sea shrimp teppanyaki with vanilla sauce, the third is the signature Yaeyama beef, the beef nose certification is really speechless, the fourth is 20 minutes to make Koki's signature garlic chicken fried rice, and the final dessert was eaten in the lounge next to it. It was a combination of matcha ice cream daifuku and Japanese hot donuts. In the end, we collected RMB 20 million for champagne and drinking water alone. Thanks to the Japanese uncle chef, he was really handsome.Breakfast at Capella Hanoi is the all-day dining restaurant Backstage next to the lobby bar on the first floor. The Backstage restaurant restores the elements of the opera house to the greatest extent, creating a transparent and gorgeous golden hall, decorated with opera costumes, the flowers are yellow phalaenopsis, and the menu is “Diva’s menu”.Breakfast at Capella never disappoints, almost all are a la carte, and the a la carte menu is simply dazzling. The first page is the Vietnamese specialty Pho, which was rated as the top three Pho food in Hanoi by our guide. There are other traditional delicacies such as baguette sandwiches. In terms of Western style, the breakfast includes fresh oysters imported from France and smoked salmon waffles, which are full of sincerity. The various eggs, especially the eggs Benedict, are superbly made, and the crepes and waffles are also delicious. The chef is well-known in Vietnam. He can already eat very nice food in the hotel without leaving home. This trip has been...
Read moreFrom the minute I booked through AMEX FHR the Capella experience began! The "Culturists" (Concierge) contacted me to welcome me, to see if we needed anything, you name it! They booked tours and reservations for us, they provided information about our stay, and much more. However, when you arrive to this absolutely perfect gem of a property, the fun begins! We were upgraded from a Jr. Suite to a gorgeous Deluxe Suite where you immediately make a video to send home to your friends and family, because you are in disbelief at the beauty. The entire place is STUNNING! You enter the lobby living room, are seated for check in and served food and drink. Escorted to your amazing room, every need is met. Amenities are beautiful (real shower caps, a hairbrush, mouthwash, bath salts....etc.). We celebrated our anniversary and were greeted with Champagne (Tattinger!), cake, a huge sign on the dining room (yep!) table, with beautiful china, a vase of roses. Morning breakfast is lovely--one of our guides said "best Pho in Hanoi." I agree, not to mention every other incredible breakfast item, coffee menu, pastries and more. Also there are crafts in the breakfast room which you can make, or, you can purchase. I bought two beautiful purses (bamboo and rattan) for a very reasonable price. The hotel Manager (Dennis) is on property (seems like 24/7) making sure every single guest has the time of their life (and we are). At 3pm daily, there is a food, drink and dessert service (free) which is incredible (Bahn Mi, Fresh, gorgeous spring rolls and lots more--mango and pineapple drinks-truly delicious, beautifully presented and included). At 5:30, cocktails and a beautiful Diva singer with piano and bass players--you're living the dream! More fancy snacks. Spa and pool are gorgeous, you can use sauna, steam, indoor heated pool. The hotel provides free pressing of garments daily. Literally there is NOTHING the staff will not do for you. Most of the time you don't even have to ask. Like most people. I debated the Metropole across the street, but decided on Capella and walking through the Metropole, I know we made the wiser choice. The icing on our cake was that we were here during the Tet holiday, and the hotel provided drinks and food at 11pm in their Presidential Suite so that the guests could watch fireworks from the balcony! Stunning, and, once again, the manager was on hand making sure everyone was taken care of like royalty. Summary: Beautiful suites, stunning hotel (you really have a hard time going outside), delicious food service pretty much all day if you wish, and a staff that provides service only experienced in your wildest dreams (shout out to Thao and the LIving Room staff--really everyone! Housekeeping/Turndown, perfect as well. I literally will come back to Hanoi just to return to Capella (though we LOVED Hanoi). Also: If the Culturists will be booking you a tour, please ask for the tour guide Bing! She is the best guide we've ever had in any city. I am a hotel princess/Four Seasons kind of girl-not the easiest to please, and Capella delivered in every way from prior to check in until now (we check out tomorrow, but I wanted to write this)! Possibly the best hotel I've...
