A Great Place for Kids, But Beware of the Air Quality
Lalina Kids Cafe & Restaurant is a lovely space where children can play, and the food and drinks are decent and reasonably priced. My partner and I have enjoyed visiting multiple times, as it’s a great concept for families in Hanoi.
However, one of the main selling points of Lalina is that they promote themselves as a safe place for children to play, particularly because of their air purifiers, which is essential in a city where air quality is often very poor. Unfortunately, despite this claim, our experience has shown otherwise.
We have brought a device to measure air quality on several visits, and each time, the indoor air quality has been almost as poor as outside. For example, just yesterday, when the outdoor AQI was 170, the indoor AQI measured 150. To put this in perspective, an AQI of 150 is classified as “Unhealthy”, meaning that prolonged exposure poses health risks, especially for children, who are more vulnerable to the effects of poor air quality due to their developing lungs and higher breathing rates.
We have engaged with the management multiple times and even offered assistance in resolving the issue, but sadly, no improvements have been made. On our most recent visit, it was made clear that the management does not plan to take further action to address the poor air quality.
I feel compelled to share this because many parents, like us, might trust that Lalina is a safe space for their children when it comes to air quality. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and parents should know the truth to make an informed decision about whether or not to visit.
While Lalina has its positives, the poor air quality undermines its promise of being a safe environment for children, which is a...
Read moreI was staying in the area for the weekend and stumbled across this little café. It was very cute and seemed targeted towards parents with children, but it was nice and spacious with free Wi-Fi. I was able to do some work as it was nice and peaceful. It's a bright place, very much catered to children, which is quite nice as it creates a fun environment with lots of different things to do.
I had the avocado smoothie, which was lovely, and the chicken and waffle, which was new. It was delicious, but I didn’t really like that the chicken was from a chicken sausage. I would’ve preferred a traditional fried chicken piece, but it was still really good. Again, I loved the decor and how engaging it is for children. As a 23-year-old female without children, I still found it fun, and if I had kids, I know I would take them here.
I got 15% off food, which was nice. They also have a happy hour for food, so you can look into that too. The food did take quite a long time, even though it wasn’t busy, but it was definitely made fresh, which was nice. All in all, it’s a lovely place with plug outlets. I got work done and had a lovely meal. It was super easy to order and pay, the staff were really lovely, and the bathroom was...
Read moreGreat: Very friendly and attentive staff, great space for kids to play, loads of activities to satisfy my 2yo’s curiosity.
Not-so-great: Food is mediocre They have a very big screen (projector) on one of the walls (right next to the slide and the ball house) which shows meaningless game playing sessions - very inappropriate and distracting for toddlers. I hope this is turned off so the kids can focus on the physical, screen-free activities!
Overall: apart from the screen, this place is great for kids (and for parents to relax). Probably the best kids cafe in hanoi at the time of this comment. Definitely recommend and will...
