Very nice restaurant featuring a variety of unique dishes including insects, bird testicles, buffalo skin, and more. Credit card, cash, and probably e-wallet payments accepted. Staff is courteous, no English spoken. Menus are printed in both Vietnamese and English which is VERY helpful. Seating on the second floor accessible by stairway.
If you're looking for something different, this is your place. We came here for the bugs, but were very disappointed they were out of the coconut weevils and fried scorpion doesn't appear on the menu any more. Still, there were other, less dramatic options to choose from. Fried grasshoppers were very crisp and salty with a comforting crunch to them despite the occasional leg getting stuck in your teeth. The fried bee pupae was less crisp and maintained a slight softness that was neither chewy nor juicy - just a little moist. Also seasoned well but also with a slight inherent sweetness to them. The worm cakes were very flavorful with prodigious amounts of very prominent works of varying sizes throughout.
If the coconut weevils are in stock you can have them fresh (live) or fried. I strongly recommend fresh unless you're squeamish. Plenty of other options too - a few other insect selections, plus bird testicles, buffalo skin, a variety of frog-based dishes, and more.
The ambiance is very nice and around Tet they decorate beautifully. The menu didn't specify drinks but there are water bottles and cans of Coca Cola at the table you can opt for and will be charged for whichever ones you use. I saw other people with bottles of what appeared to be an in-house produced liquor - would have been nice to have some mention of that on the menu!
I'd definitely go back, but only stay if the coconut weevils...
Read moreQuán kiến 100: An Intriguing Introduction to Insect Cuisine Quán kiến 100 offers a unique dining experience, venturing into the world of insect-based cuisine. While I only sampled the ant larvae and egg sticky rice, it was enough to spark my curiosity and dispel any preconceived notions of a culinary "horror show." The sticky rice itself was well-prepared, exhibiting a pleasant texture and a subtle sweetness. The ant larvae added a surprisingly meaty flavor, enhancing the overall dish and demonstrating the potential of insects as a protein source. It was a pleasant and unexpected flavor experience. The service was perfectly adequate, efficient and polite. The restaurant's decor, however, felt a bit manufactured, as if designed for a potential chain. It lacked the organic, authentic charm one might expect from a restaurant specializing in such traditional fare. Overall, Quán kiến 100 offers a fascinating glimpse into a culinary tradition that is both sustainable and surprisingly delicious. While my limited experience prevents a comprehensive review, the ant larvae and egg sticky rice was a positive introduction to insect cuisine. Read moreThe most extraordinarily rude and dismissive service I have experienced in any place of business under any circumstance in any country. The hostess at the desk looked as if she was disgusted and waved us away when my partner and I asked if she could seat a table for two without reservation, when I asked if we could leave our name or come back she dismissively waved us away with an even worse expression. It was clear more than a language barrier was at play here, maybe if we had gone with Vietnamese friends our experience would’ve been...
