Good gimmicks of foam base ramen. Noodles of the soft type. Really silky when slurping it with the foam broth. Cha siew was grilled to perfection with it's golden fat lean ratio of sinful goodness. Side of chilli bean sprouts are on the house. Very Japanese in terms of food offering as free. Very reasonable prices for the return of goodness. Why atmosphere rank low is because a baby roach just run from the condiments section towards me and ran back . That's really a big turn off in terms of hygiene. Definitely not wanting to share condiment with the roach.
Updated follow up visit to try their advertise prawn x bone soup ramen . Rather disappointing this time. Was greeted by mama cockroach which the staff skillfully unalive. For the prawn ramen soup is ok. Combination of light seafood broth with creamy bone anchor of favour. Noodles is a disappointment. Instead of the soft noodle they use the thick dipping ramen type in Al dent. Not really silky this time as you need to chew on it making the continuous flow of mouth feel broken. It was soup .. follow by chewing of noodles instead of slurps of soup plus soft noodles. Prawn could have improved a little. Not that fresh. The tail end of one wasn't really well grill . Semi raw. I have prawn goyza which is underwhelming. Nothing special. Skin too thick but not crisp . Ingredients inside too hard. Overall stick to their simple ramen. Paid almost 400k but the Return of investment is less than the cheaper...
Read moreChoi Oi Noodle, situated in Ho Chi Minh City’s JapanTown near the Lê Thánh Tôn entrance, has garnered attention for introducing Saigon’s first “cappuccino ramen.” This innovative dish features a tonkotsu broth topped with a creamy, frothy layer reminiscent of a cappuccino’s foam. The ramen includes thin noodles, a seasoned egg, black mushrooms, seasoned bamboo, and a notably thick slice of fatty chashu pork with a charred exterior.
The restaurant’s cozy ambiance includes counter seating that offers diners a view of the open kitchen, enhancing the dining experience. Operating hours extend until late night, catering to late-night ramen enthusiasts. In addition to the signature cappuccino ramen, the menu features variations such as Tonkotsu Cappuccino Ramen with Shrimp, Cold Ramen, and side dishes like Shumai dumplings, Gyoza, and Grilled Shrimp Chashu. For those seeking spicier options, the Dan Dan Noodle Spicy Ramen (Tantanmen) is available.
While the cappuccino ramen is a standout, some patrons have noted that the tonkotsu broth may not be the creamiest compared to other establishments. However, the unique presentation and the substantial portion of chashu pork have been highlighted as distinguishing features.
In summary, Choi Oi Noodle offers a distinctive twist on traditional ramen, making it a noteworthy destination for those eager to explore innovative culinary creations in Ho...
Read moreAmbiance: 6.5/10 - Typical tiny Japanese resto in Thai Van Lung alley vibe. If you go by 2, you prolly need to sit on the counter which is not my cup of tea. Food Quality: 7/10 - Really nothing special. We felt like the chashu is a bit too fatty. I couldnt finish my bowl. But may be that was just me. Service: 6/10 - There were not many customers when we were order (it couldn’t be crowded anyways cos the place was teeny) but the staff forgot our orders and kept confirming 3 times. She was also not helpful in answering our questions about how flexible the chef was in adjusting the dish (thick-thin noodles, adjust the noodles amount etc.) Value - 6.5/10 - Not cheap. Cleanliness: 7/10 - I’ve seen better and I’ve seen way worse.
Overall Score: 33/50
Location: 7.5/10 - Easy to find. If you’re driving, it’s kinda not ideal to go to any place in Japan town. Menu Variety: 7/10 - Menu wasn’t too basic. Get the job done. Bathroom: 6/10 - We don’t know if they have a bathroom. Didn’t look like they had. Noise: 6.5/10 - Nothing too crazy. Space: 5/10 - What space? There was a sweaty dude sat very close to me.
Final score: 65/100
I don’t get all the fuzz people have about this place, it’s not like there’s no other ramen place in that area, I mean next door. But having said all this, I think I would come back for new dishes and new staffs ✌🏻.
