## Ngon Saigon: A Gem of Gastronomy and Greenery Ngon, meaning "delicious" in Vietnamese, lives up to its name in every way. Stepping into this Saigon restaurant is like entering a fragrant oasis. Lush greenery weaves through the space, creating a vibrant, intimate atmosphere that whets your appetite before you even glance at the menu. And that menu! Oh, the glorious menu! Ngon is a symphony of Vietnamese flavors, each dish a carefully crafted composition of fresh, local ingredients. We savored the **bun cha gio** (crispy spring rolls), the aromatic **bun bo hue** (spicy lemongrass beef noodle soup), and the melt-in-your-mouth **banh mi** (Vietnamese baguette sandwiches). Every bite was a burst of tangy, sweet, and savory notes, a testament to the skill and passion of the kitchen. But Ngon's magic extends beyond the plate. The staff is as welcoming as the fragrant lemongrass wafting through the air. They guide you through the menu with genuine enthusiasm, patiently explaining each dish and offering recommendations with a smile. Their warmth makes you feel like you're a guest in their home, not just a patron in a restaurant. And then there's the ambience. The clever use of greenery brings the outdoors in, transforming the space into a leafy haven. Soft lighting and subtle decorations create a cozy atmosphere perfect for intimate dinners or lively gatherings. Ngon is a place where you can linger, savor the food, the company, and the vibrant energy of Saigon. If you're looking for a delicious, authentic, and unforgettable dining experience in Saigon, Ngon is a must-try. It's not just a restaurant; it's an experience for the senses, a celebration of Vietnamese flavors and hospitality. So go, explore the vibrant menu, soak in the verdant ambience, and discover why Ngon truly deserves its name.

Overall, the place was okay and the food was okay, but nothing too surprising. To preface, however, I didn’t order a lot of items from the menu. I only ordered the crispy rice with seafood (main dish) and Ngon salad (chicken and pork). I was told initially that I had to wait 20 minutes because they had a lot of customers which was okay with me. After 20 minutes, I was told by one of the servers that my main dish was not prepared by the chefs at all (still okay with me since I don’t really have expectations coming into restaurants I’m trying for the first time when traveling abroad). However, the reason why I gave the service 5 stars is because of Giau (aka Richard), one of the servers who was not only kind enough to follow up with the chefs on my behalf (and make sure the crispy rice was served) but also take the time and effort to do a demo on how the crispy rice was supposed to be eaten. After asking out of curiosity how the food was supposed to be eaten (as someone who is a first-time traveler to Vietnam), he took the time to do this demo despite the overwhelming number of customers that needed to be served. Again, I had no expectations whatsoever for Giau to do this since a verbal explanation was enough for me. He also took the time to ask questions and tried his best to make me feel comfortable especially because I was eating at this restaurant alone. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this, Giau; this made the dinner extra special!

TL;DR Unfortunately, this was the worst experience on my entire trip in Vietnam. The food was only okay, but definitely over priced. The decor was nice, but literally fall hazards. The service was absolutely horrendous. My dad fell on the ground after tripping on the steps and no one came to help or even check on him. All the staff just stood there and watched him struggle to get back up. You should come if you want to trip and fall to sue them, but go elsewhere for food. --- We came to try after seeing great reviews online and some recommendations from friends and family. The decor is very traditional, but the service and food just don't make it worth coming if you're in Vietnam. The food is on the more expensive side for Saigon, but the attitude and treatment from our servers was horrendous. My father fell after walking down the steps of one of their tables that doesn't have any paint indicators (this is literally a safety hazard that could hurt someone). When we asked for more hot water because our tea was too strong, they told us that they'd need to CHARGE us for another ice tea if we wanted hot water. We asked why and they said that's how management was setup (we ate at a LOT of other places in Vietnam -- check out my travel list -- and NONE of them ever charged us when we asked for more hot water). The servers literally stood after to argue with us that they needed to charge us for the hot water. Service also became very slow despite us ordering 15 dishes (this was also like a tapas style restaurant) slowly throughout the meal. It got to a point where our servers (we had 3 assigned to us) appeared to be hiding from us and the other servers flat out ignored us! Even asking for the check took another 20 minutes. You could literally go to any other restaurant in the area and be treated 10x better than here. My family and I literally did that... We ordered a good spread of food: Bot Chien (fried rice pancake): 3/5 - not crispy, but soy sauce was sweet Bun dau ran (tofu vermicelli): 2/5 - very plain, just vermicelli noodles, some veggies that Banh Beo Thap Cam (vietnamese rice cake): 2/5 - fish sauce was plain and these were almost overcooked Bun Thit Nuong (pork vermicelli): 3/5 - small portion size, nothing special, tasted like it should Com Chien La E (Lemon basil Fried Rice): 2/5 - lacked flavor, could've concentrated the basil much more Dua Tac (iced coconut drink) - 3/5 - too much ice, but tasted like it should Goi cuon chay (vegetarian spring rolls) - 2/5 - very plain, even with the hoisin sauce, which was very bland, almost watery Muc com chay toi - 2/5 lacked flavor and texture was a bit watery Nem nuong nha trang (bbq pork rolls) - 3/5 - tasted like nem nuong should, but it came out cold and the sauce was bland

한글 후기는 호치민 도깨비 카페에 작성하였습니다. This travel was the first time with my mother. Upon arrival, I ordered buncha, Morning Glory, Bánh Xèo, lemon juice, and a Saigon beer. Despite the crowded place, the service was quick, and the food didn't take too long to come. The buncha was tasty, though the portion was small. However, there was an unexpected delay for the Morning Glory, and they mistakenly brought a dish we didn't order. Having experienced similar situations in other Vietnamese cities, I called the waiter, and they promptly took it back as usual. The issue arose with the Morning Glory. It looks fresh and delicious, and my mother enjoyed it until a cockroach appeared when there was about 1/3 left. It seemed to have been stir-fried with the Morning Glory. Disturbed, my mother felt nauseated, and I immediately called the manager. The manager(name : ngyuen duo(?)) arrived, uttered a quick "sorry," swiftly took the plate away without addressing the issue. (The young female employee with black-framed glasses seemed even more apologetic than the manager, who has no responsibility.) Unless I had taken the photo immediately, there were no physical evidence at all. In the meantime, Bánh Xèo arrived. The manager didn't return, so I called again (we didnt eat Banh Xeo at all.), and he casually said, "Cancel the Morning Glory, Bánh Xèo is fine, eat it." Outraged, I considered raising my voice but decided to remain calm, asking, 'What would you do if you were in my shoes?' He responded with sigh, but I insisted on canceling the Morning Glory, willing to pay for the others. Upon my insistence, he agreed to cancel the Morning Glory but emphasized that Bánh Xèo was okay. Frustrated, I retorted, 'You said is it okay? Right?' Finally, he brought the bill again with sigh, however, which included unused napkins. When I found and pointed it out, he nonchalantly erased it with a pen. After got the bill, my mother's mood was significantly really down, so, we headed straight to the hotel directly. It was a totally disappointing experience, especially considering this is a place catering primarily for foreigners. Especially, the service showed by the manager left the most terrified experience of this trip. If you plan to go to here, well...consider carefully once again. There are so many delicious, good mood restaurant except here. Thanks for reading.

if you’re here for the authentic vietnamese foods, you’re definitely not gonna get them. this place is specifically made for foreigners to come. for some reason a lot of overseas vietnamese coming back to vietnam also eat here too, and i was influenced by my family. i will admit, i would still maybe go here to check it out because the decorations outside were very eye-catching. they had flowers all over, and it looked very nice. however, major flaws - they do not have a single ac in there. don’t let the nature look fool you - it was so hot in there, i was sweating. this restaurant charges so much from people it should have ac even if the doors aren’t closed. service here is pretty under average. they hired unprofessional staff even though this restaurant is in the center of the city and serves mainly foreigners. it took them a while to order and bring food out even though there are a lot of servers. food. they basically have most vietnamese foods here, except some like super super local one. the menu was packed, so i was a bit indecisive when choosing a dish to order. i ended up ordering bánh canh cua, my mom ordered bún thịt nướng, and my cousin got the cơm tấm. the banh canh was fine. it wasn’t a big portion for its price (~110k vnd) but it worked. the bun thit nuong was ok too i think. the com tam’s portion, however, was extremely underwhelming. it had the same price (~110k) but was so little. this was concerning to me because my favorite com tam place (3 ghien) is around 90k vnd per portion and SO MANY ppl already complained about its price… we also got 3 desserts: chè sương sa hột lựu (tricolor che), chè bắp (corn che), and a thai mango sticky rice. i had the last one and yes this is a viet restaurant - but i love mango sticky rice in general. the sticky rice was so mushy, it wasn’t even like scoop-able by the spoon. it was basically chè. it wasn’t bad but so hard to pick up and eat. also got a lemongrass drink. overall, expensive and not worth it. but cool to try a foreigner focused viet restaurant in vietnam and it had a lot other choices.

I've found it! The worst restaurant in Saigon. Well at least I can't imagine any worse than this anyway. Prepare to pay more than 3 times the usual amount for vietnamese food and drinks, and even more for other cuisines, but end up less satisfied overall. You might find it hard to order if you can't read vietnamese or English, and even if you can read the menu there are no pictures to give you an idea of the dish you're getting. On top of this, the menu is quite bloated so it could take you some time to decide on your order. We tried a few dishes and were disappointed with the Pho and pancake. The pancake did taste good but the prawns are placed inside with the shell still on, so you need to pick it out of the pancake, deshell it and place it back in. Unless you have a few screws loose and you like to eat prawn shell. The Pho was sub par compared to what we've had around the country and the Banh Coun was average. I suspect that the prices are higher than most places because the interior is quite beautiful. There are loads of plants and colours and the seating area is huge. They were busy when we visited but our food did not take long to come out, which is a plus. For some strange reason, they skimp on providing napkins. You're handed a wet wipe when you're seated and nothing else throughout the meal to clean your hands. This was not a good situation for us since we had the pancakes which involves touching the food. Of all the restaurants I've visited travelling from north Vietnam to the south, this takes the award for worst food and eating experience. Overpriced and pretentious. Avoid.
