Decor: 1 Service: 5 Presentation: 4 Quality: 2 Price: $$$$
This is one of the more popular and probably the biggest Chinese Dim Sum restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City. I have been here before on multiple occasions. However I thought it has gone downhill.
The decor is exactly as it has always been. It used to look glorious and glamorous. Then why a 1 for Decor then? Allow me to explain. The once beautifully renovated and decorated restaurant still is all it's chandelier and such in tact and looking good. However, these were overshadowed by one fact... mildew. I saw some of this last year and thought they'd look into and fix it. However, when I walk in this time... I gasped and saw huge expanded black molded walls extending near halfway down the walls. How on earth is this not a health hazard? The stench can only have been covered by the huge kitchen cooking.
As we were, insanely enough, waiting for a table, we were offered a private room upstairs as they were fully seated. As we were walking up the stairs, I was able to her closer to the blackened walls... It was horrendous as one might imagine. As we walked down the carpeted hall to the room, I can see two ladies scrubbing down the carpet. Now we can start to smell that stench.
The service was great as two staff members kept us served and was attentive. No complaints here.
The quality of food, I thought, went down since last i tried. The skin of the shrimp dumpling was chewy and felt like a rookie made it. The fried rice had a food flavour to it but was too hard. The good ones I have today were the chicken feet, soy sauce rice rolls, and the frog congee.
The price they charge here is quite like the price charged in higher than average restaurant in North America. Which says alot when tagged to locals.
Unfortunately, for me, health is priority and this place got a total fail for not taking care of the mold. Who knows what else they neglect if such obvious health hazard has been ignored?
I will definitely not return until that is fixed.
2 stars!! If it weren't fornthe great services it's be a 1 star....
Read moreI was having Christmas dinner with my family. There are 30 of us so you can imagine how much my family have to pay for this meal. During dinner , my son who is 10 year old have an allergies reactions, his mouth is itching and his lip get more red and swelling. I ran to 2 waiters who is standing by the reception. A lady and a man. I have asked if they have any antihistamines if not can they show me where is the nearest pharmacy and call me a taxi so I can get help for my son as soon as possible. In my disgust. They seem not to care, they said is really far and she will send some to my table to help which I found really strange. This is is a child life I am talking about.
Anyway a young waiter came to me and said how can help me l. I explained to him what happen to my son and show him the reactions on my son lips and the boys just stand in front of my and say sorry he can't do anything. In panic I left my dinner and rran out of the restaurant and manage to get a taxi ouside and ask him to take me to the nearest pharmacy. Thank God I made back in 10mins ti give hims his medication.
I am absolutely disgusted and out of word to say for this place . My 10 years old son was suffering and no on seem to care. Not even come back to check if my son is ok. I came from London and do not know my way around!

Read moreDim sum in Saigon has its hidden gems, but Ocean Palace in District 1 is in a league of its own. This isn’t your casual, budget-friendly dim sum spot, it’s where you go when you want Chinese-Vietnamese fusion cuisine at its most refined. Be prepared to spend, but trust me, it’s worth every $$$$.
Let’s talk about the food. The shumai and har gow? Unbelievably fresh the shrimp has that crisp snap, almost as if it leaped from the sea straight into the dumpling wrapper. The handmade noodles with dumplings? Classic, yet deeply flavorful a perfect balance of texture and broth. And then there was the fried fresh fish—the kind of dish that steals the show, where every crispy bite melts into umami bliss.
But what really sets Ocean Palace apart is the service flawless, almost theatrical in its precision. This is five-star restaurant treatment. The staff split dishes for each person without us even asking, ensuring everyone had equal portions of noodles, dumplings, and fish. Dirty plates disappeared instantly, like magic.
This is a place where tradition meets luxury a spot that celebrates dim sum not just as food but as an experience. If you’re looking for premium dim sum with impeccable service in Saigon, this is it. Come hungry, bring a friend, and...
