Forever my #1 choice for Phở 🥰🥰🥰
Food 2.0-Star Choose your meat. The rest is the same 1000/10 Broth I will confirm over and over again. It doesn't matter how many times I get asked. Phở Dậu's broth flavor has not changed (for my palette) since I first started having Phở here, back in 97~98, and their name exists wayyyy before that. Broth is flavorful, yet, light and clear. Lean, tender meat, crunchy yet soft cartilage (only available super early in the morning), soft and chewy tendon. It doesn't matter where else I tried Phở, I would never get the same familiar flavor or the satisfaction for Phở the way this place can give. It is a generational family business that will always have its uniqueness, and kudos to the family to be able to keep their colors no matter how much time has passed. 1xxxxx/10 "Tiết hột gà" - 🐂🩸🥚🍲 If you have the gut to try, you will find this little bowl of broth is even better than the broth in your Phở bowl. The reason is the 🩸from the fresh meat, with hot broth poured on top and cooked immediately, with a slight cooked egg yolk adding the richness texture and taste. +/10 For those who can eat raw onion Phở Dậu has their instruction on how to mix the onion. But, if you do not like vinegar and sugar, you can skip them. My mix includes lime, 🐟 sauce, 🌶 sauce in the bottles (spicy/Sriracha), and sweet 🌶 paste (in containers). You can mix the 2 🌶 types to make dipping sauce for the meat as well. 100/10 Drinks Vietnamese black coffee (if you don't get drunk on caffeine easily) Vietnamese condensed milk coffee Fresh squeezed orange juice (ask for no sugar to enjoy the fresh juice) The old gentleman making drinks has been there just as long as the place. He knows his craft and makes real good ☕️
Price 1.0-Star Price matches the quality & quantity Back then, their bowl already cost 43k50k/bowl, almost 30 years back, when $ was 14k16k 🤣. With inflation and cost of living, the price goes up is absolutely normal, which gives them the ability to keep their quality the same, if not better.
Service 1.0-Star Friendly local family-owned style 😎 And very quick, I don't have to wait even 10 minutes before everything I order appears in front, waiting to be devoured.
Environment 1.0-Star True - Hole in the 🧱 - but has standard cleanliness for a local eatery. It used to be low tables and low chairs right in the alley. Now we get to sit at the normal dining tables 😆
Overall - Solid 5🌟 Will always come back here for Phở and wish I could have this every weekend like I used to when 👧🏻 Unfortunately, age comes with concerns about the amount of food you...
Read moreThis is a quick guide to those who want to try pho Dau for the first time, so you can enjoy it at its best. the bowl of pho: a distinct soup bowl very different from both North and Saigon style of pho. The flavor is driven mainly by fish sauce while stewed with the beef. My recommendation: do not put chili sauce or whatsoever into the soup. Only squeeze some lime if you like, or a bit of more fish sauce if you feel not enough taste in the bowl. here comes the second signature of Dau: the bowl of sliced onion. It is not intended to put directly into the bowl of pho. But amazing taste when you mix it right and eat with pho Dau. How to do it? Some people add vinegar and sugar and mix to some degree that they prefer. But it is tricky. My suggestion is squeezing lemon into the onion, then squeeze the bottle of chili sauce into it abundantly. Then you can add a little of fish sauce, pepper then mix them well. You can have some mixed sliced onion before or after you take a chopstick-full of pho noodle. The flavor is top...
Read moreAlthough this is a true North dish, it still attracts a lot of diners here. This is most unique Pho retstaurant in Saigon with a rich bowl of pho, soups in the bar, served with thinly sliced onions (no any other stores have).
Pho Dau has so far no vegetables, mung bean sprouts and black soy sauce served as other Pho shops in Saigon. And of course, there are no beef balls for those who love the South Vietnamese taste. The Pho taste is quite bland because the broth is completely stewed from beef bones and there are no spices like cinnamon, anise,... Compared to other noodle shops, the price of pho here is quite high, but the food is very good and the customers come in and out continuously. Especially on weekend, very crowded.
Pho Dau is only sold in the morning, so if you want to enjoy this Northern food, then come in the morning. The unique feature of Pho in general is that it has a very light stomach, so a good Pho restaurant is when customers do not feel tired, light...
