My visit to Phở Miến Gà Kỳ Đồng was a long-awaited treat. Despite it being on my list since day one, the fun of travelling with friends meant I only managed to get here on my last day in Ho Chi Minh City. Yet, the anticipation was well worth it.

As a Michelin recommended eatery, I naturally had to try their signature dish: the chicken pho. The soup base was what truly sets it apart. It was incredibly rich and hearty, yet surprisingly clean and sweet on the palate, a testament to hours of careful simmering. Each spoonful felt nourishing and deeply satisfying. The chicken was cooked to perfection so tender and succulent it practically melted in my mouth.

To elevate the experience, I added some fresh basil leaves, which brightened the broth with a lovely, fragrant lift. A splash of fish sauce introduced a new layer of complexity, adding a savory depth that transformed the flavour profile entirely.

Despite its prestigious recommendation, the prices here are astonishingly reasonable. I was genuinely surprised when a bowl of their famous chicken pho and a drink came to just 85,000 VND. It's an incredible value for such a high-quality meal.

This place is an absolute must-visit for anyone in Saigon. It’s an unforgettable culinary experience that proves great food doesn't have to be expensive. I’ll definitely be making a return visit on my next trip...

Classic Pho Ga! 🍜🇻🇳 I had to stop by the famous michelin bib restaurant serving chicken pho in HCMC. You know it’s gonna be good when the place is filled with locals.

I ordered their signature dish: Pho Ga (Chicken Pho). As an Indonesian, this is a dish resembles a dish called soto ayam back home. A simple warm dish, just noodles, chicken and aromatics. Perfect for a rainy day. The chicken was cooked to perfection, tender and fulfilling. The broth was extremely rich, too rich for my liking, which put me off from finishing the broth. I added condiments and leaves they provided to really elevate the experience.

Despite its reputation, the prices were still reasonable, and the portion sizes were generous, a great value meal. We left barely able to walk.

The service was top notch. Even though we were the only tourists, they served us well and were VERY attentive. None of them spoke English, but they still tried their best to accommodate us 🫶🏻🙌🏻. We often feel out of place in Vietnam, but they made us feel welcomed. They took cleanliness seriously too.

It’s a little far from district 1, but I recommend making the trip if you’re ever nearby. See...

I was initially excited to try this famous, rave-reviewed glass noodle chicken soup place, but was disappointed with the chicken itself.

The food: the chicken meat was a bit bland, not as tasty as "gà đi bộ (walking chicken)" in the US (Southern CA standard). The broth was darker and looked to be cooked with chicken bones and little MSG, which was good. However, good cooks would have made the broth clearer. My wife makes better chicken and broth than this without using any msg, but she isn't cooking for restaurants - only for me. Hehe.

The service: we went on a Friday mid-afternoon to avoid the crowd. There was no wait for a table. Servers were decent and responded to our request for additional dishes and sugar cane juice drinks. The place was big with rows of tables set in cafeteria style and waste baskets under each table.

The price: it was a bit higher compared to locals.

Overall: It's a slightly above average food place, but nothing exceptional to warrant craving...
