Reika is a dimly lit, intimate little space as an Izakaya should be, but bit more elevated and a bit less dive-y. I started of with an Umetini, a simple gin yuzu cocktail that I would later find out added the perfect kicky punctuation between bites of food. Snacked on Taiwan-style chicken and scallops in an unctuous spicy cheese sauce while I waited for the mains. First came a Horensa salad, a bed of spinach with toppings that included some tender julienned mushrooms and a blanched egg. Next the salted egg carbonara, which was doubly eggy with the salted egg through the pasta in addition to the runny yolk. Both dishes had a generous portion of pancetta integrated through. Read moreFood: absolutely delicious, especially their unique rice dish. I have tried several dishes and none of them disappointed me. If the menu had even more diverse options, I believe it would be fantastic. Service: incredibly friendly with young staff who often nod and smile – very charming Location: conveniently situated close to the city center, making it easy to reach and find.
While the place also serves cocktails, it's more suited for dining than cocktail sipping. However, I must say that it's impressively well-maintained in all aspects. I have heard that the founder has opened another bar on the upper floor, and I'm definitely planning to pay a visit. I highly recommend everyone to give it a try. It's a...
