Som Tum Thai - Vincom Đồng Khởi — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

My partner and I had checked out the menu for this restaurant last night 14/11/22. The menu looked great and it was very busy, always a good sign. Unfortunately when we got here, whilst we were seated immediately, on the smallest table and given menus, that’s the only staff contact for a very long time, because they can’t get off their personal mobile’s. Another gentleman was seated and his order taken, easily 5 or more minutes before any staff member came near us to actually serve us. They came multiple times for the Asian couple next to us, ensuring they had everything they needed. Finally, after 20 or more minutes waiting, we finally had to staff member approaches to take our order. The first thing to come out was my Green Curry Beef, no rice to eat it with. My partner then got his entrée, still no rice or entrée for me. We eventually got rice and my partner’s main choice. Neither main had a lot meat. After we asked about my entrée again, the waiter came back to advise it would take 4 minutes to cook, Meaning it wasn’t ordered. They came out chewy, and not that fresh. I recently visited Som Thai Restaurant and was really impressed with the overall experience. The food was amazing, packed with authentic flavors and a truly good taste that stood out. The portion sizes were just right – generous enough to feel satisfying without being overwhelming. On top of that, the service was exceptional; the staff were attentive, warm, and went above and beyond to make the dining experience enjoyable.

The location itself was also very convenient, making it easy to get to and a pleasant spot to dine at. I should have read the other reviews before coming here for lunch. While the food and atmosphere are fine, the restaurant must have forgotten about my food or accidentally given it to another table. The space was only half full when I arrived. I was dining alone and ordered a single, simple dish, but waited more than 40 minutes. Other tables nearby arrived after me and received all of their far more complicated multiple dishes before I received anything. The waitstaff did finally come to give me an update after I’d already waited about 25 minutes, asking me to wait 10 more minutes for a dish that honestly should take less than 10 minutes to make in the first place....
