July 2024 Unfortunately I must update my 5 star review with a major downgrade. This was my top 2 place in Thao Dien for dinner. Sorry to say, no more. Why?
Service: (by the way, it is management responsibility to train staff, so this is not on the server) the server did not know how to open, our and refill glasses of wine. So painful to watch and certainly poor service.
The menu: it has been changed completely. Not a bad thing to update menu once in a while, but only when it add value (by the way, previous menu was amazing, simple, unpretentious and tasty!). In its current version, menu pretends to be something much higher level, with many Japanese words I don’t even know the meaning of. With higher prices, it certainly built up the expectation, but it did not deliver. Watermelon and tomato salad mushy and unimpressive. Mains: small and very average at best, though the presentation is good.
Overall, a major downgrade. Owner change? Not sure I am heading back there, a major loss for me 🥲
May 2024 Been here many times and every time it gets better! The waiter even remembers the wine I ordered last time: that is service! Food is great, nice beats, cocktails are fab: what else may one wish for when with...
Read moreI ordered the breakfast plate and my poached eggs and toast arrived at the table completely cold. Not luke warm, but completely cold. The toast was as hard as a rock. The waiter went to the kitchen to redo my eggs. I then decided to eat my cold toast whilst I was waiting which was served with jam but no butter. I asked the waiter for some butter. I spread it on my toast then added the jam, took a bite and it was garlic butter lol. I called the waiter over and explained clearly in Vietnamese that garlic butter doesn’t go with jam on toast. He did not understand and kept on telling me that it was homemade garlic butter which obviously had no relevance to the issue. It turns out that the restaurant does actually have plain butter. At this point I decided to cancel and go home to eat. With restaurants as silly as this, it’s better to cut your losses and leave and eat somewhere else. By Vietnamese standards this restaurant is quite expensive so it’s surprising to experience this level of incompetence. My coffee and my watermelon juice were...
Read moreReally was prepared to write a bad review, but they surprised me... We just showed up and the Receptionist had a bit of an elitist "do you have reservations" vibe about her... She said they had no tables available (3 of us) even though I could clearly see 5 or 6 empty tables and free seats at the bar.
I asked to see the Manager and said why couldn't they seat us, but he carefully explained they were holding reservations for us and then asked us to hold on a minute. He came back and escorted us to the bar...
And then he made certain we were well taken care of. The cocktails were very amazing and delicious... and it was impressive to watch the bar tenders really focused like fine artists in making their magic... everything custom made- even carefully and artfully flaming the lemon or orange slices for each drink.
So, we expected to be upset, but were pleasantly surprised. much thanks to the manager...
