First time in hue, Walked past, it looked interesting and nice open plan layout so thought Id try it. Very dissapointed on a few matters really.
For starters Food I ordered was not great. Just my opinion of course.
I had a calzone folded pizza and a salmon salad.
The calzone's pastry was not like that of a traditional calzones that ive has many times before.. was not crispy on the outside but kind of shiney and very bendable in nature a bit like those aldo premade pizza bases. Quite a thin base, which I would normally like but this one was thin, shiny more chewier and had a unusal taste. Like it was made in a factory somewhere. Not saying it was just that's how it tasted to me. The contents were similarly kind of dull and generic I guess you'd say. Hard to put a pin on it really. Not memorable or flavoursome is the main takeaway. It also had a lot of excess pastry compared to the amount of filling,so I left a lot of that on the plate.
Im not really into each lots of plain pastry. Unusually the pizza sauce came separate from the calzone too. Not on the inside much that I noticed anyway..but in a bowl you were given to apply as needed. I guess that's the viet take on how to do sauces as per most of their meals -seperatly, but it just doesn't work with pizzas/calzones. Don't mess with the Italians original recipie.. they got it right first time!
The salmon salad was a bit unusual too but a better effort than the calzone. It had too many cubed carrot chunks.never had that many in a salmon salad before.. and their choice of lettuce and other vegetables that went into it won't have my tastes spud yearning my next visit. Salmon flavour itself was ok but it's lts definatly not a masterpiece.
Ok, the food wasnt great, you could eat it though if youre hungry, but the atmosphere is ok. A nice open plan restraunt on a interesting corner. Problem for me is that the people next to me finished their meal and started smoking. This is inside, i would have thought they would have limited smoking to outside. So I asked the waitress to move to a far away table.. noone sitting anywhere near there, but apparently it was reserved so not possible. As well as the many many othe tables near that part. All empty. Meanwhile my meal comes so I just start eating it asap so I can get out of there. All the other tables were still empty when I left.. so could easily have been shifted. Anyway... such is life.
It's a pity though. The place has an interesting theme of the veitnam war with a 3d map of the locations and names etc crafted to the ceiling. Would have been nice to be able to have a few drinks there and admire it.. soak up the atmosphere but instead my salmon salad became a smoked salmon salad thanks to people sitting near me and I just wanted to get the hell out. The food itself didn't make me want to take my time either. But I just learn lesson and get out. There were a few people there so obviously they think its ok, or like me its theor forst and last time. Judge it for yourself if you want but that's my opinion.
After the meal, you're charged extra for card payments too but on the flip side the staff were nice enough, the location is good, it's got an interesting theme and decor to the restraunt but I won't be returning. It was my first Western food in Vietnam too. Viet food has been lovely so far but this is the first dissapointment. I think I'll just stick to Vietnamese food from now on unless it comes highly recommended.
Hope you all enjoy this lovely country. It's been...
Read moreDo not go here! Food took forever to arrive, most of it being cold when it finally did. They asked more than one friend what they ordered 3 times, and they still didn't get it right. Nothing was seasoned and I had to ask for some salt and pepper, which took them 10 minutes to bring to us. The Pepper didn't even taste of anything (which was bizzare). An hour in, my friend got their dish, well after everyone else had already finished. The service was terrible, they were nice boys (apparently trainees) but they had no idea what they were doing. It felt like they had never been trained, which is probably true. That's on the management, they tried their best.
The only positive is the drinks were good. They took my drink off the price of my bill which was nice of them, but it did feel a bit like bribery. I don't enjoy leaving bad reviews, but I want others to be aware of how this place is currently managed. Please go to any of the other great food/drink spots in the area until they sort it out. It's a shame as it's a...
