Amazing new authentic hue style Vietnamese!
We honestly were on our way to Madame thu which is just a few doors down and is an institution it seems for westerners wanting hue style food, however it was packed with people and more waiting so we wandered up the street and food this amazing gem! It has a beautiful up and down stairs and it's newly constructed so all amenities are super fresh. The menu is authentic hue treats and dishes and everything we had (we ordered 4 entrees, 2 mains 2 beers a wine and 2 delicious teas) was fantastic - one of the best eats we have had in hue so far and we have down 2 food tours since being in Vietnam. Our bill was pretty awesome too only 514000 which for the service and quality of food we handed over with a tip without any regrets - it's a truly great restaurant so do yourself a favour if Madames thu's is busy walk a few more buildings down and go here, the restaurant has better seating and the food and...
Read moreOur high expectations based on reviews ended in a disaster: made clear I can eat nothing spicy, they guaranteed my catfish is not spicy but turned out very spicy. Since it is the problem of the sauce with which they make all dishes of meat, fish and vegetables, the only solution for me is to change to a simple plate of fried noodles which is ok but nothing special. Then came the unbelievable: after one hour when I have finished my noodles, there have never come the other 3 dishes we ordered in the beginning and the waiters were surprised that we pushed for these missing dishes as they did not even realize that we were not served! After 10 minutes' discussion, they found out our orders of all other 3 dishes got lost! They then served quite quickly but our mood was already ruined, and again the food was far from...
Read moreHard to recommend to a tourist over Madame Thu, just a few seconds away, but Bánh Gánh does have its own qualities. It’s less busy for one, so easier to get a seat, and also it has space for families. Some of the dishes are more suitable for sharing as a family too (like the morning glory). It’s ever so slightly more expensive than Madame Thu, which I think is a bold move considering how good the food is by their competition. We went for the pork skewers, pork rolls, morning glory and braised pork. I enjoyed the food for the most part but found that the braised pork was a bit too full on flavour. This is personal though so you might enjoy the stronger flavours yourself. To summarise, the food is good but not the best on the street, but it’s easy to get a table for larger groups. Staff are all friendly...
