We dined here 15 years ago on our first visit to Hue, so when we learned it was still open, we had to go back.
The restaurant is half the size that it once was (downsized due to Covid-19), but the menu is as good as we remembered.
While we tend to stick with local food when travelling, we recalled with fondness some of the best Italian food we've had back in 2009, so Italian it was again.
We were welcomed in with a complimentary aperitif, which was a nice touch.
We chose to try their garlic bread - delicious, garlicky with a touch of pesto.
For mains, two of us enjoyed lasagne - flavoursome, pasta was al dente, the only complaint, it wasn't big enough (said tongue in cheek as it was, just it was so delicious both wanted more). The third (me) went with fettuccine con pollo - delicious hand-made pasta, a tomatoey sauce with fresh chunks of tomato, tender chicken, just lovely.
For dessert we enjoyed chocolate mousse (rich, thick, and creamy), banana split (you can't go wrong), and crepe with ice cream (light and thin with a delicious sauce). We also tried the tirimisu, which was creamy and delicate with a not overpowering light coffee flavouring.
Service was great; polite, friendly, and attentive without being cloying. Meals were served quickly, as were drinks. The beer was cold, and the cocktails were well curated.
We'll definitely head back, possibly even tonight. Our guide today advised that not only does the restaurant serve tasty Italian, they also do excellent Vietnamese cuisine, so perhaps we can be torn away from the...

It took well over half an hour (and several requests to the staff) between our first diner’s meal arriving and the last two meals. Consequently everyone else had well and truly finished before the last meals were served. This was despite many other customers, who had arrived after us, being served before us.
The manager initially advised that he would not charge for the last two meals, however he later changed this and offered to provide a free drink each instead. He then discounted the cost of the drink off the bill but left the holiday surcharge in place for the free drink!!
We told the waitress we were sharing an entree between two, however the serving size was so small, it was literally only one mouthful between us.
My main course of spaghetti bolognaise was mediocre, cold, and not cooked with chilli as ordered.
We did not receive the free garlic bread advertised on the board out the front and our fellow diners did not receive their free beer offered with the large pizzas.
Quite disappointing and the debacle with being charged a holiday surcharge of 20% on the value of a free drink was unprincipled; the two late meals were sooo late, they should have been free 🤨
I very very very rarely write reviews, but the management at this place deserves a bad mention.

Read moreI was eating here today and to be honest, even for Vietnam this has little to do with Italian cuisine!
It started with the bruschetta 4 pieces of baguette with maybe one tomato on top and the rest just melted cheese. Where is the bruschetta, please? I sat here next to the prizes I received - I can't understand how anyone can give this a prize! The steak at the next table looked good, but that doesn't make an Italian restaurant for me!
The spaghetti is a feast for the eyes, but it's really overcooked. Not inedible, but an Italian pasta dish is not a pho! In addition, the spaghetti was clearly broken ... is far too short. At least the scampi are real.
None of the pizzas on offer have anything remotely to do with the Italian originals.
At least it's cheap, but that doesn't save the lousy performance.
All in all, just bad! Especially compared to other Italian restaurants in Vietnam. Sheer contempt for...
