A family run restaurant serving delicious local food.
Eating here felt like being invited for a meal by a vietnamese family. Actually, quite literally.
You make your way through a tight, almost shady alley. Once there, you enter a light room with tables where you can see the kitchen and also hear the kids watching TV from upstairs. I personally loved the home-like atmosphere.
We were welcomed super warmly with a smile and a glass of jasmine tea. When ordering, the waitress recommended us a set instead of ordering separately. It turned out to be perfect for tasting a bit of everything and enough to fill two people. It was also incredibly cheap for the amount and quality of the food (150k VND). Very honest of her.
About the food, I get why some people say it felt bland. The flavours are quite clean and light. I personally love to be able to taste the ingredients without being covered by sauces, spicy, and other strong flavours. So, if you have a similar preference, it will most likely be delicious for you too.
The set included a lot of different dishes (grilled pork sticks, fried rice pancake, dumplings cakes, fried rice, beef noodles soup) but our favourite was the grilled pork in lemongrass - Nem Lui. Don't worry, they also explain you how to eat everything (don't eat the banana leaf ;)) The spring rolls - Nem Ran and the fried rice are also really good.
Overall, everything was excellent. Please, do visit!!
It is also one of the few places with a genuine high rating. They do not ask for a good review in exchange...
Read moreWarning! Any serious food lover, tourists, backpacker or anyone older than 25 need to go elsewhere for food in Hue. We went here because of other reviews and did not realized it was based ONLY from clueless young caucasian tourists. This tiny place is in the owner's house and at the end of a long alley. It is preferred, not heavily enforced, for guests to take off their shoes. NOT a real problem! The service came from 2 very kind young women. BUT, the food was simply terrible. There was zero flavor from any of the 3 dishes we ordered. In our 3 weeks in VN, we had not eaten at any place as bad as this one. The "grilled" pork was this hot mess of something that looked like undercooked and chewy mystery meat heavily covered in lemongrass. It was super strange and really bad. Their fish sauce to dip was also flat and not great. How does anyone screw up fish sauce mix in VN? When we arrived and the 1 hour we spent at this place, there were ONLY young"ish" white customers making their trek because of other reviews. We saw the servers teaching 3 different tables how to wrap rolls only tells me they are all new to eating Viet food. Hence, the clueless positive reviews. While i do NOT relish giving this place such a low rating because of the nice women, but this review is solely based on the food. The food was really, really tasteless, not authentic to the region or country and there is no getting around it. If you are reading this review and still decided to go, don't say i did not try...
Read moreWe were looking for somewhere quick and easy to eat on a rainy night when we first arrived in Hue, and found some of the best food here for dinner tonight that we’ve had anywhere in Vietnam.
They have a great menu of local specialities, including some set menus if you want to try a bit of everything. Also a really good selection of vegetarian options based around tofu, mushrooms and veggies which made a lovely change from pork/shrimp/beef.
We ordered the vegetarian stuffed pancake, lemongrass pork, the tofu and vegetable noodle soup and a salad. All of these dishes were absolutely delicious, but the standout for me was the tofu soup. The vegetarian broth was so tasty and such a good depth of flavour - I can’t stop thinking about it!
The setting feels like someone’s dining room. It’s underneath a hotel/guesthouse but it’s not a hotel-style restaurant. It’s low key, with an open-ish kitchen, family run I think. Mixture of both locals and foreigners. All the tables were full and people were constantly coming in and out, it’s clearly popular. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming and there was a great atmosphere.
Overall this really felt for us like a hidden gem in the backstreets behind the main Pub Street drag. We’re so glad we stumbled accros it and would highly recommend - especially at such great prices (big portions and cost us 250k VND for 4 dishes and two mugs of...
