It’s true what they say about going two blocks from the main strip to find the hidden gold. We found Maison Trang after going down a couple of back alleys. And is so often the case, we were rewarded. This restaurant is operated out of the back of someone’s home. Something tells me it’s the home of the Trangs. There’s also a swimming pool that’s sitting under the foundations of the building next door. No sunscreen required at this pool. Not sure if you’re allowed to swim there, though. Bring your swimming costume just in case. Annnnnyway, back to the food. We had the set menu for 150K. It’s def too much for one person so I recommend sharing it and adding a couple of extra things that take your fancy that aren’t included. Large Huda beers are also 20K which makes this meal by far the best value we’ve had on this trip so far. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ P.S. They also make you take your shoes off before coming inside. This is something I’m totally going to start enforcing when I get home. So anyone reading this that thinks they’re bringing their grubby shoes into my clean home, think again.

I came here because I heard it was a great restaurant in Hue. I can see why it is so popular among tourists. They show you how to eat local dishes and explain what they are which makes it an easier experience. However, some of the dishes I found a bit mediocre in comparison to the same dishes I’ve had elsewhere. The set menu had a few dishes that were very enjoyable such as the pancake and lemongrass pork. I also had the grilled pork noodles with peanut sauce and the peanut sauce was a bit bland. I think a better peanut sauce could bring the dish up to the quality of other restaurants that I’ve had this dish at. For us, the bun Bo hue and the other items from the set were a pass. Not bad but not too good. The highlight of the meal was the spring rolls, but I did have hair cooked into mine. They were still very good though. We ate here a second time on our trip and ordered just the lemongrass pork and the spring rolls and the meal was very good. At the price point, I’d still recommend the restaurant for those dishes and the great service, but there is definitely better.

Overall very good experience. Great value for money. Ordered a banquet for one with 1 extra Bun Bo, all to share between 2 ppl. Got more than enough. Food was nice, liked that we could try a little mix of everything. Everything was hot and fresh. Not explosion of flavour but decent and nice. Staff super nice, smiling, polite and attentive. One thing I have to say is that the restaurant on the pictures Is not the one you'll be visiting. Think maybe original one closed and now been moved to a tiny little place behind a hostel. Need to take a dark little street to get there. We were quite surprised it was nothing like the pictures from sometime ago. Now to beef soup, very tasty, lots of fresh veggies and herbs served with it. I was surprised it's not served with a beef shank but a sausage meatball that I wasn't a big fan of. But i see there is many ways of serving it in Hue. To sum up, we were not disappointed. For the price you will get more than enough. Definitely worth to try.

HONEST REVIEW: I've seen mixed reviews for this place but I've ended up coming here twice. I can understand everyone has their preferences but I honestly thought the food here was good. Some people say it's dirty and have a problem with the whole taking their shoes off to enter. I don't get it, these people are running a restaurant in their own home. So go to a proper done-up cliche restaurant then? Anyways, i came here twice because I had to eat their deep Fried Spring rolls again - the ingredient/texture of the outer roll is really different from what I've ever seen in a fried spring roll. The filling is homemade and just too too good! Some might think it's oily but I mean it's deep fried. I also tried their other dishes (fried rice, rectangle steamed wraps, banh beo, banh khoai), I come to Vietnam once or twice a year so the food here is not WOW but it's still good. Sauce can be a bit better. Overall, service was great and it has such a great homey vibe to it!

We had a hit or miss experience at Maison Trang. Bun Bo: amazing, certainly this is the place to try this local soup. I just might not order much else here and instead do a food tour hitting all the places for their best items. We came for this soup by recommendation. Spring rolls (fresh): had the tiniest amount of shrimp I’ve seen in a roll. About 1cm of shrimp, not a whole shrimp x 2 per roll. We only had two out of five. There was basically only rice paper and noodles which was not the case at Madame Thu where they were our favourite part of the tasting plate. Thit Heo Nuong Xa: the pork cooked on lemongrass was very good but slightly less flavourful than at other places. We felt this was in between the bun bo and the spring rolls in quality. The peanut sauce is good. Atmosphere: considering the price we felt this place did not match similarly priced restaurants. Feels like it is in a basement and there is not much air circulation.

I had the pleasure of visiting Maison Trang restaurant in Hue and I highly recommend it. We started our dinner with delicious vegetarian spring rolls. I opted for the noodle soup with beef and bean sprouts, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were intense and delicious. The restaurant's menu is extremely varied, including a wide selection of vegetarian dishes, which we really enjoyed. The restaurant is tucked away at the end of a small alley and has a pleasant atmosphere. The owner was extremely friendly and answered all our questions, which made the experience even more enjoyable. As a special highlight, we each had a delicious passion fruit for dessert. Overall, our visit was a successful evening with delicious food, warm hospitality and a charming atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
