I really wanted to give a higher rating, but unfortunately I can't. The first time I went to this restaurant was less than a week ago when my partner and I arrived in Hue for the night. We found it on Google maps and thought we'd give it a shot. Boy, our first time did not disappoint! My partner ordered the regular bun bo hue, and I ordered the foreigner one since I don't eat pork. The soup was rich and had the bun bo hue flavour that I've been looking for ever since getting into Vietnam. In addition, the noodles were cooked nicely and the beef was not chewy. They also give you a small dish of herbs and greens to throw into the dish, but both times, I noticed it was a little short of basil and bean sprouts. So when I returned the second time, I asked for some more and she was more than happy to give more. Both times we've been the service has been decent. No problems!
We liked the bun bo hue so much that on our return to Hue from our motorbike trip, we decided to go back for a late lunch. Not sure what happened, but the first sip of the soup, we knew it wasn't the same as the first time. It was really salty and more clammy and fishy than the bun bo hue flavour, and the beef was more on the dry side. We were surprised that we ordered the same dish as last time, yet it tasted completely different.
When you arrive, you will notice the restaurant has the authentic Vietnamese stool seating. You will also notice that the restaurant isn't the cleanest (e.g., floors, garbage bins by the eating tables are full and not emptied, tables are not wiped).
We have mixed feelings from two very different experiences. Overall, we personally feel it is an okay restaurant. Good to try it once, and unfortunately not a...

My family of 9 had lunch here based on it being close to our Hotel and its high ratings on Google Reviews. We are a foodie family who travels together and this restaurant was perfect. Great spacious location, clear big signage, lots of seating and lively atmosphere with an A/C room option and lots of fans! The environment where you eat is elevated and looks out onto the walking street so it creates a great vibe. We all ordered the Special dac biet Bun Bo Hue and it came quickly and hot! Great broth, sliced meats, deep large bowls and plenty of veggies and fresh chilies to add as garnish. We often travel for food and this dish was 5 stars, perfect aromas you expect, lots of meat, so good my wife and I drank all the soup! We also ordered the Lemonades and bottles of local Beer. There’s a sugar cane pressing machine out front so that makes it feel like dinning at a night market appeal.
When traveling I often save my appetite for special places like this and it was very good and memorable! My overseas Vietnamese and Philippines family and I had zero complaints and enjoyed ourselves so much we all left with smiles. I highly recommend it! And above all else the owner Thuan is so friendly and speaks English very well, shout out also to his friendly and accommodating staff!
This is a must try location for an amazing Bun Bo Hue experience!
Thank you...
Read moreLovely customer service from the staff and the owner.
The owner was born and raised in Hue and has been running the shop for many years so she must have done something right so far. For my tastebud, the broth is delicious and packed with a strong umami, beefy and spicy flavour.
Got some refreshing cups of sugarcane juice.
We were surprised with a cheeky free plate of passfruits and watermelon slices. No strings attached except when i chatted w the owner afterwards she did politely ask me for some feedback to improve.
Just like any other foreign countries not just VN, you should do your due diligence when it comes to food. Either try to learn some basic vietnamese, have a reliable translation device or don’t expect everyone to speak properly English. In saying that, i do believe the restaurant would be beneficial and prosperous from a properly displayed menu (a plus if there are sample photos). The reason i said this is because other than your usual well known beef slices, noodles and beef spicy broth; there are unfamiliar toppings to foreign tourists such as pork hock and pig blood curd. Prices are definitely reasonable for a tourist (gosh they have a bowl for 35k on the menu which sth i had paid 5-6 years ago). However, i can be confused for guests as menu are literally translated to normal bowl, special bowl, combination bowl, etc.
In general, a good stop for Bun Bo Hue if you are...
