You can’t really not visit Ambrai Ghat if you’re in Udaipur. It’s one of those places that effortlessly makes it to every travel list—for good reason. The view here is stunning, with the City Palace on one side, the shimmering lake in front, and a sky that turns full drama mode during sunset. It’s the kind of spot where you just sit and go silent for a second, because wow. That said, peace is a myth here after a point. It gets really crowded—tourists, photographers, couples doing pre-wedding shoots, influencers balancing on railings—you name it. So if you’re chasing that quiet, introspective lake moment, this might not be your place unless you come super early or opt for a boat ride. The view from the lake during sunset is supposed to be unreal. We skipped the boat ride though—been there, done that, and to be honest, unless there’s a little thrill (maybe white water rafting?), it doesn’t excite us anymore. We like our adventures loud. Ambrai Ghat also has one of the best vantage points to photograph the City Palace lit up after dark. If you’re into night photography or just want to sit with your thoughts (and 50 other people doing the same), this is the spot. It’s public, it’s free, and it gives you all the postcard vibes of Udaipur in one frame. Final take? It’s iconic, it’s beautiful, it’s chaotic—but it’s Udaipur. You go. You just time it smartly.
