I was recently on a vacation in Udaipur and staying at Hotel Sarovar. Shamiana Roof Top Restaurant and Coffee Shop is located on the top floor of Hotel Sarovar and the view is mesmerizing. Located right along lake Pichola, Shamiana offers you one of the best view to dine with. The restaurant has both terrace and inside seating but I will recommend terrace sitting for the view. The ambiance is really soothing with some light music and dim lights at night.
I tried all three meals- Breakfast, lunch and dinner here and everything was delicious. Starting from breakfast which has a number of options such as aloo parantha, aloo poori, pancakes etc. is prepared fresh and served hot. The staff is really courteous and responsive.
For lunch, I ordered their specialty Gatte ki sabzi, Karhi pakora, biryani with assorted breads. Gatte ki sabzi is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for anyone visiting this place. The whole display of food was excellent and delicious. Veg biryani was perfectly sealed in a matki and had an excellent aroma and flavors.
Dinner time was one of my favorite here because of the night view of lake Pichola accompanied with light soothing music and lighting. This place is tailor made if you are looking for a date place within a budget. The bar menu has a number of good cocktails, my favorite being Mojito. For dinner, I ordered karhi pakora which is again STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
In a nutshell, for anyone visiting Udaipur next- do visit this restaurant for their excellent food, drinks, hospitality and most importantly the VIEW.

Β Β Β Read moreI visited this place on a weekday with other 7 members of my family. At first they asked us to wait for 30-40 mins saying there is no space available. I checked the second floor of the restaurant which was 60-70% vacant, I checked with the manager why he is not ready to give us seats and he came up with lame excuses like if we join table then there will be no passage . I said okay no problem you can give us at the end then there won't be any problem with the passage and he came up with another lame excuse. But somehow I managed to convince him for giving us some seats as everyone was hungry. Then he just provided us 7 chairs for 8 people and went off. After 15 mins another waiter came, after calling him 2-3 times he agreed to take the order.
We were also checking if we could get a place on first floor as service was better and view was better. So I checked with the waiter if we could move to the first floor as by that time lot of seats were empty and we didn't start with the food. For which he replied in a very rude manner saying no. I can understand if the seats are not available but he could have politely mentioned that these are reserved or someone is coming. But they behave like as if they are doing a favour to you . I have never seen such a rude staff in hospitality industry and wouldn't recommend going to such a worst place. I am giving one star for the view and food as it was decent. But zero stars for the staff and especially the owner who was just sitting in the next table and was observing everything but didn't make any effort to deal with...
Β Β Β Read moreWent for the dinner. Initially, the Service was fine upto the main course. Towards the "end" (what we thought was almost an "end", as we expected to leave in 30 mins), we committed two big mistake: (1) ordering dessert, and (2) giving them another chance after that. Dessert took almost ONE HOUR, and we had to remind the waiter in between, who confessed he forgot to take care of this order. Even then, another half an hour! Finally on its arrival, we requested the waiter for Coffee as soon as possible, and not to take so much time again. Aahh, it took another half an hour. The bill never arrived on the table even after informing them soon after ordering the coffee. Is my time so much unimportant for these people? At the time of billing, the cashier/manager literally intruded in the bill-related conversation my friend and I were having, and talked in extremely rude tone (related to the discount on bill that we were eligible for). Dear Mr. Cashier/Manager, no one gives you the right to be arrogant to your customers. You need to be compassionate to them if they are irritated because of your PATHETIC service. Stop being insensitive to people, and please learn how to behave with...
