A mixed bag. This review is written the day after The Corrs Concert, so take that into account if using it for future reference.
The venue was set up well with over 5000 approx reserved seating. Clearly the early feedback had been taken on board.
Gates opened at 5pm and it was decided to only have everyone enter by one gate, when two entries were available. A massive fail. This was also repeated at exit and was even worse.
The no backpack rule is terrible and caused me a lot of issues. I could not bring some meds, wet weather items etc. Considering I was in A seating, this made no sense. Very easy to put the small backpack under the seat. Women's large handbags were deemed ok, but a backpack, no.
Getting to and from the venue is easy if you catch the City Cat to QUT Gardens Point.
Would I go back to Riverstage for a different concert? I highly doubt it. All the extra seating was provided because it was a Corrs Concert.
If it was another Corrs Concert. I would choose a different seat. I was in A2 Row C and whilst being so close to the stage might seem great, with everyone so closely packed together and on ground level ie no gentle slope, it was difficult at times to see over other people.
One final item of note to the management of Riverstage if they reading this. In the A section seating, the white plastic chairs, whoever decided that zip ties were a good idea are just nuts.
Tying two seats together, which meant that people who didn't know each other were glued next to each other.
Hopefully, you took notice of the feedback of this concept by the amount of snapped zip ties when you cleaned up the venue.
Overall, I went to both 2023 Sandstone Point Hotel Corrs Concert and this one and enjoyed 2023 far more, even given the extra drive to Sandstone Point.
Sandstone Point was $80 cheaper for an equivalent product, allowed backpacks, moving around was easier and getting in and out...
Read moreMy second time at Riverstage and once again it was absolutely horrible. Things were going smoothly until we were evacuated because of a storm warning. Their evacuation plan SUCKS. I was on the disability platform with my sister who’s in a wheelchair and we were told to evacuate even though we were undercover. Security told everyone to take cover under car parks/random places and half of us didn’t even know where the carpark was. Some of the security were unnecessarily rude and apparently saying the show was cancelled so some of us went home. People in wheelchairs and crutches had to go down the steep slippery hill in the rain, also a lot of them couldn’t get their equipment wet but we were pushed out into heavy rain anyway. Everyone was split up at random uncover places and people were taking cover in groups under trees with severe lightning, nothing was being done about it. After over an hour everyone was drenched but we were let back in and it was so unorganised. The entrance was chaotic they let everyone in at the same time, VIP and people with disabilities were not let in first as they should be. No wristbands or bags were checked when entering back in literally anyone could’ve came back in. People were pushing and running on the slippery ground to get back in. Once we were back in our spots at the front were taken, luckily this lovely girl let my sister go in front so she could see. People who have been camping there up to 30 hours and paid heaps of money to be at the very front of the mosh pit got their spots taken because of how unprofessional this venue is. They definitely need some sort of evacuation centre for situations like this. Bless the security guards that were kind and trying their best but other than that 0/10 experience, pure chaos and I pray that any upcoming concerts I want to see aren’t at...
Read moreHad my first experience watching a concert here at the riverstage at the beginning of this month, March, to see BON IVER.
There were maybe 3-4 types of ticket areas. Standing only, around the on top of the hill. A section covered (gazebo) for wheel chair patrons. A seated mosh pit area in front of the stage and the elevated lawn.
Where the 5th star rating was lost for me/hubby and is probably more to do with the inconsideration of other patrons, is for the majority of BON IVERS performance we were looking at peoples back/backsides and couldn't see him at all because the majority of patrons below and infront of us all stood up (general elevated grass area) 🤦♀️🙄 which was super annoying.
There were a couple of food trucks, port-a-loos (toilets). Helpful ushers. No issues entering or exiting the premises. QUT university is on the same campus with other food options around. Subway, kebabs, etc
If I were to attend another concert, mosh pit would be my way to go if the tickets are not too overpriced. Depending on the artist, I wouldn't want to risk paying money to see the backs/backside of people. And yes, I, too, could have stood up, but I'm more considerate of those behind me.
You can't take in any chairs of sorts or umbrellas. Plenty attendees too in picnic rugs. We took in a padded beach lounger to sit on.
There are plenty of bins located around which sadly too many attendees were oblivious to and left so much rubbish behind.
Lighting and sound were good, though. We'd gotten accommodation at The Royal on the Park, which was super handy at a 15-20min...
