What a disappointment, we had booked 2 nights stay at Courtyard by Marriott for the dates 30th April - 2nd May for my partners sisters wedding.
After staying at the W Brisbane if staying in Brisbane, we seen Courtyard a option being apart of the Marriott Bonvoy group and a newly renovated hotel we were interested to see how it weighed up. Unfortunately they definitely did not live up to the name.
Upon checking into our first room being 212 we were greeted with a musky, awful smell which was throughout the room and much to our disgust 2 finger/toenails on the carpet by the bed absolutely DISGUSTING! Meaning the room was definitely not vacuumed or cleaned properly. Given these times during COVID you would expect superior cleanliness.
Fortunately The staff on shift were very understanding & without hesitation offered to move us to a new room. Unfortunately it didn’t end here...
Upon checking into our new room being 209 everything seemed to be fine until our Daughter ( 3 years old ) wanted to go to the toilet and the toilet seat was completely cracked ( PLEASE SEE PHOTOS ATTACHED) not only is this a HAZARD for anyone but specially a young child fortunately she was not hurt, but this is mind boggling as to how this room was approved for guest to check in when there was a clear safety hazard.
Once again we were on the phone to guest services explaining yet again another issue... they fixed the seat and we were once again moved to another room being 712 which fortunately was clean & well presented. We were also offered a discount for our stay.
Unfortunately this was a Nightmare check in which we definitely didn’t need with 2 kids & preparing for a wedding. Rooms are modern & well furnished although the beds are far to soft if you like your bed EXTRA PLUSH well you will love these beds but personally laying in the bed to the point where there is absolutely no back support and you sink into the bed. I’ve given 2 stars only for the staff in particular ( Christina ) who handled things very well.

We are Marriott members and tend to stay in their hotels as we travel the world. I've also stayed in local places and had some interesting rooms. I like the general predictability and this hotel lives up to that.
The interior is modern with lots of clean lines. The other marriots rooms looked a bit older. As silly as it may be to some, the red and mustard theme is very unappealing. I do spend time in my room.
We were upgraded to a small suite. It comes with a full kitchen (fridge, sink, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, tea machine) as well as a normal room frodge or chiller. There is cutterly, plates and glassware. This let us go down the street to the small grocery near the train station and pick up a few staples.
The bathroom is spacious with a large, deep tub that is seprate from the shower. The wall that connects with the sleeping area is glass, frosted halfway up. That made me blink for a moment but it is a good way to indriectly light the room.
This hotel comes with real, functional balconys. Our room looks out over the river in a space between buildings.
There is one resteraunt on grounds. However, the dining district is a five minute walk. Plus, doordash and ubereats are plentiful.
Pros: The location is nice The rooms are nice The staff is lovely The tub is large.
Cons: You get two large towels at a time. They are small large towels. The AC automatically turns off after a few hours. We wake up at night burning and have to turn it back on. The room has to have a key card in it for things to work so your room is hot when you come back. I understand it is energy saving. After running around the city it is not plesant to come back to a hot...

Don't get me wrong. It's a modern hotel, located close to public transport, close to the Mater and Children's hospitals, close to the main food scene is South Brisbane and almost on the river's edge. Access to Western and Southern Brisbane is also pretty easy from here. In short, there is a lot to like about this hotel, but the reason for my 3 stars is that the hotel has left me wanting.
To start with, not many amenities that one would expected in a hotel are available for patrons. By the way, what they have is not even listed. So, you need to ask and staff are very reluctant to give you the simplest things like a toothbrush kit.
The on-site restaurant is also a cause for disappointment, and there is no bar.
The in-room dining offer is quite limited, it is not available 24/7, even though the food comes from the on-site restaurant, they charge you a 'delivery' fee and have minimum spend requirements. They don't have an in-room mini-bar either. So, you couldn't get just a simple coke, firstly you'd have to buy other items to get to the minimum spend of $10 and then add a $5 delivery fee. That's a massive negative in my view.
There is an indoor pool, which is fantastic, but it is not heated and the gym is very small with limited equipment.
I had a large room, but the space was poorly used. The windows were above waist height, and I'm tall. The bed was far away from the windows. So, despite a great view, you couldn't quite see it from the bed or anywhere else in the room unless you were standing at the window. Even sitted next to the windows, you would struggle see the view.
Overall, a poor experience for me, though I might be back due to convenience...
