An much-loved Gold Coast family destination, Harley Park has fantastic amenities to suit everyone, from playground equipment that includes both kids and adult-size flying foxes, public BBQs (if you can find one that isn't in use!), park benches, shady pine trees, man-made shelters, water fountains, and beach showers for anyone who is coming out of the popular swimming hole behind the sand bar directly in front.
With the iconic Charis seafoods and the Labrador Boat ramp at the Southern end of the park, there is a constant bustle of people dropping in to pick up their fresh seafood, tourists feeding the local flight of Pelicans, locals coming back from a day on the water, and exercisers passing through on the delightful coastal cycling and walking path which extends along the Broadwater coast and continues all the way to Surfer's Paradise.
Across the corner from Charis Seafoods is the Grand Hotel, with a small bottle shop behind it to keep the BBQ conversation lubricated, or bistro dining overlooking the water at Kokonut Willy's - inviting you to stay and make the trip a long a lazy one.
The dedicated free car parking is often full, so the best option is to walk or ride a bike if you're able. At worst you can park for free in the residential...
Read moreHarley Park at Labrador. It has a couple of playgrounds for children, water stations, covered picnic tables, lots of exercise classes and the big attraction is Ian Dipple Lagoon. This is a man made lagoon where water from the Broadwater flows in and out 4 times a day. At sunup the serious swimmers are enjoying their early morning dip. The famous Charis Seafoods has a seafood market right here. They feed the Pelicans every day. This brings tourists as well. Everybody wants to photograph the Pelicans and stand amongst them at feeding time. I am lucky to live nearby but I get the opportunity to talk with visitors who get such a thrill out of all the facilities. On fine sunny days which is most days, party boats, barbecue boats, houseboats, dinghy's and jet ski's all line up along the edge of the lagoon and busses park to disgorge passengers. All have come to grab a Charis Seafood lunch and to watch the...
Read moreA very pleasant place with attractions for the smaller cohort of the family. Several enclosed areas with equipment for them and a small flying fox. An interesting beach to run on and dig in, a relatively shallow lagoon area, numerous seagulls to harass and pelicans to stand in awe of especially when they are fed in the early afternoon. Food and drinks are available without crossing the road. And there is always movement of boats and other waterfront along the Broadwater to be of interest. Enjoyed it immensely. Apart from the usual seagulls and pelicans there were 3 black swans in the lagoon today for a casual visit. And there is a large exercise area and equipment being constructed just north of Charis. Not completed yet but there is a copious amount of equipment being installed - probably about a week away from completion. More boats being moored off the beach getting...
