CAFE 4 U — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

Lovely sitting here looking out across the Broadwater. It's always busy, yet coffee and food arrives promptly. On both occasions I've been here, staff have been friendly. The big breakfast is extremely reasonably priced for this part of the world, and coffee is strong. 👍 Tried the iced latte today and it gets a thumbs up from me.

Update May-25; I've had to revise my review from above. All I can say is - don't visit Cafe 4 U when they're really busy. Both our coffees were over-hot and weak (it's Merlo coffee, which is usually ok). It's as though the barista only gave 1 shot espresso into a supposedly 2 shot coffee. We ordered the basic breakfast, knowing there may be a small wait before it was served. What was unexpected was a 45-minute wait, and people who arrived well after us were having their food before ours had arrived. Asked a young waitress to please follow up. Crickets. Silence. Nothing. So I went up to the kitchen area, showing my table number - and our order has been put on the spike meaning it was delivered. But certainly not to us. Eventually our simple breakfast arrived. We requested a pepper grinder (cracked black pepper) and received a blank stare from the waitress. We shrugged and didn't bother to ask further as it's obvious they didn't have this basic. The fried eggs weren't even set yet, with the 'white' bit around the yolk looking like someone had a very runny nose - transparent, gooey slime. We ate what we could and got out of there in a hurry. Sadly we won't be coming back. There are a lot of other breakfast cafes in the area that may charge more but their food is worth it. Not Cafe 4...

I am quite sad to write this review as I am sad at the realisation that my favourite cafe no longer exists. I have visited weekly for over 10 years and since the new owners have arrived a lot has changed. I went in today and upon ordering I asked for cutlery and was told there was none washed and I could use plastic. I declined and asked for it to be brought out when washed. This did not happen. Food arrived in a timely manner but the eggs, toast, and cooked tomato were all cold. I ordered a coffee with my meal and waited 33 minutes for this to arrive. I went up and asked at the 27 min mark for my coffee to be changed to take away as it had been so long. I observed the barista moving quite slowly and was not fazed at all by the fact there were customers waiting so long. My coffee arrived 6 mins later in a mug so I sent it back and advised again I now needed this take away due to the time delay. Each table was full and there was no line up to order so was not super busy but busy enough. At no stage did any member of staff appear concerned that people were waiting so long, many people were sitting at dirty tables or that overall people were not happy. It really is a shame as I have noticed a decline in recent months but this and my past two visits were quite terrible. On the plus side, there is a cafe right next door open for breakfast on the weekends with cheap offerings and the food and service looked amazing. Will try there...

I don't typically leave reviews but this one really needed it. Used to love popping in after a walk along the beach on a weekend. Be aware they have changed ownership in recent months it seems.

Firstly we noticed the change in atmosphere and lack of people. I wondered why it wasn't packed like normal. It became apparent quite quickly.

Then the communication with the lad taking our order wasn't great, but I wouldn't hold that against them. He could be new. It was more the lack of manners in general. The staff just didn't seem to want to be there. It used to be bubbly and friendly. Now there's not a smile in sight. Not awfully welcoming.

The food was awful. It was stone cold. Bacon, egg, beans, hash brown. The toast was okay and that was my favourite part of the brekky. The strawberry milkshake seemed like powdered stuff it was unusually watery. The hash brown was also tiny so you don't really get the value like before.

No napkins in sight anywhere, the tables were dirty and they don't clean them inbetween services at all. No smiles or customer service.

Basically a poorly run business with no inclination towards improvement or taking feedback. The coffee looked okay though and was nicely done.

Our family won't be going back unfortunately. It is no wonder that all the reviews recently are mostly one star. I've never seen a business decline so fast. Hopefully they can improve soon and turn it around....
