Where do I start. The rudeness, the food poisoning, or the inexperienced staff?
We started off the afternoon with about 10 of us, overall spending about $1,200.00 total.
We all ordered some entrees and mains with a couple of drinks each, nothing unusual or OTT. The waitress proceeded to bring out main-sized meals for the entrees clearly ordered and knowing that each person also ordered main meals, this then resulted in a huge quantity of unwanted food that went to waste for us to leave a substantial amount of room for our main meals.
When receiving my main meal the prawns smelt and were clearly frozen then thawed then frozen again or dare I say off/old. The steak ordered was meant to be medium rare but was well done. The prices online had increased on median of about $6 each to what the represented in the physical menu.
At the end of the afternoon we then paid separately which we have done so before at this restaurant with no worries.
The cashier lady who claimed to be the manager had made the mistake of cashing out the entire table after approx. $200 had been paid. She did not charge this person the 15% surcharge. She then had to manually re-add all remaining meals and drinks again in which we all had to pay a 15% surcharge each. At first my personal bill was meant to be $157.00 + 15% Surcharge = $185.00 She then stated that we owed around $255.00. And when we asked why she said “that’s what’s remaining” I asked her to print the receipt to overlook this mistake where she was hesitant in doing so.
After looking and adding up what she stated it came to the original transaction of $185 inc 15%. She then said she made a mistake and “recalculated” and said we owed $225.00.
After stating politely to her that this was incorrect and she may have made a mistake on the recalculation from the cashed out issue. She was yelling “never again, I have worked 10 hours and I am sick of this, NEVER AGAIN” insinuating that this was our fault.
After this conversation that I did not take as an altercation prior to her comments I then proceeded to pay the bill she thought was correct and leave.
When we got home I had a look at my bank statements and saw that we were also charged an additional 2.5% for using my debit card as payment. Earning an additional 17.5% on top of our meal and the mistaken $40.00. Equaling an additional $67.00 in “fees”.
You would think spending $1200.00+ (we wouldn’t know from all her mistakes how much more we all spent) that the original mistake of $40.00 would’ve been wiped to ensure our return.
WELL LAZY LOBSTER. You sure lived up to your name this time. LAZY, RUDE, OBNOXIOUS, AGGRESSIVE AND DOWNRIGHT DISHONEST.
All 10-13 of us will not be returning and not will the 100s of family and friends we have. Great work....
Read moreReturned from a holiday from Airlie Beach and took my mother and my wife out to dinner at the Lazy Lobster.
We ordered A bottle of Sem Sav Wine Soft Drink x1 Battered Scallops Cold Seafood Platter for Two $318
The wine was beautiful as were the Scallops
The issue we had was with the Seafood Platter for Two
the prawns were quite small, they were okay in taste but not great but nothing to complain about The seafood platter was filled with fruit which was mostly good and was enjoyed The oysters were washed in Salt water and tasted okay but were a step down from all the seafood that my wife and I had in Airlie (for a much cheaper price) The lobster was good, especially with the sauce on top but without the sauce would not have been that enjoyable as you could tell they were frozen prior
The real issue I had were with the bay bugs on the platter. They tasted like they had been rinsed in water that had dish soap. They obviously were not but that is still the taste regardless. We brought this up with the wait staff and they were replaced. They asked us how the replacements were and I said that they were better but it was just because I did not have the heart to tell them and have them replaced a second time.
In my opinion the bay bugs tasted like they were frozen and defrosted in a microwave as some parts were slightly luke warm instead of cold.
I used to work in fine dining and know that this is not always a problem with the kitchen staff and probably just the standard of service of the dish but overall we were quite disappointed.
Reading from the reviews I will probably get a reply that says “we’re sorry we pride ourselves on our food and have 700+ 4-5 star reviews” but we will not be returning.
I would rather buy fresh food from the trawlers and make them for myself at home.
I would probably not be leaving a 2 star review if the price was more in line with the quality that we were served.
But we have a similar meal on our holiday for $200 and that was worth a 5 star review. (Sorrentos Italian Restaurant Airlie Beach if anyone is curious enough to...
Read moreWe went to The Lazy Lobster last Sunday and were severely disappointed with the standard of food. Do not order the Seafood Platter for 2, it's not worth it. Half the platter was made up of fresh fruits, and although there were some fresh prawns, a few oysters and a small flower crab, a majority of the platter were made up of fries, fried scallops, calamari and fish that were all from frozen. They claimed the fried seafood were fresh (delivered on a Saturday) and the batter was prepared fresh, but fresh battered seafood is usually light and tender. Their frozen fried seafood were grey, hard and dry, and the batter was dark brown, much like it was flash-fried to freeze then re-fried from frozen. The battered fish was also dry and powdery. All signs of frozen seafood, but the staff still insist that it was all fresh. Visit with caution. I would recommend dining at Yellowfin Seafood Restaurant instead. The Seafood Platter for 2 there is a so much better, no fresh fruits, and cheaper too!
In response to owner: Your waitress said she asked us how our food was during the meal, but we told her none of us heard her. We certainly did not tell her we were enjoying our dinner. Judging from other 1 star reviews here, you definitely have some issues with your seafood platter which you still blatantly ignore and criticise your customers for their honest feedback. How about you focus on serving fresh seafood instead of frozen food and maybe you won't get anymore 1 star ratings on this issue. Your waitress took "some beers" off the bill, not even all, not even any of the platters, which our bill still added up to over $400. I don't intend to harm your business, but make aware to potential patrons to visit with caution. I have no connection to Yellowfin Seafood Restaurant. I did visit both their outlets in Brisbane and Gold Coast in the last 2 weeks and their food was consistent and fresh, hence the...
