The newly renovated and reimagined HOTA (previously Gold Coast Arts Centre) is wonderful. I grew up in Gold Coast and I went to HOTA for countless shows, eisteddfods, and art exhibits in my youth (so much so that I even participated in a number of them annually for the better part of a decade).

I knew HOTA inside out, then moved to Melbourne, and when I came back up to visit, I'd discovered they'd totally rebranded themselves, built an entirely new building to house all the gallery, and also built a huge outdoor amphitheatre. My family who still live in GC didn't even realise the change.

It's amazing - we spent the whole day wandering the art gallery. There are great pieces of art; the restaurant on the ground floor and the bar on the top floor also look very inviting (unfortunately the restaurant, Palette, wasn't open when we visited but I definitely want to head there next time I'm up). The views are stunning and the building has little mezzanines on every floor to soak up the GC skyline.

If you go for a wander around HOTA, there's steps on the other side of the amphitheatre and you also get lovely views at the top. Further along, you'll find the park (a.k.a. the Peace Pavillion) which does live up to its name - it's incredibly serene and it'd make the perfect spot for a family picnic or a lazy lunch or a nice walking track. They've also got a ferry port there so you can visit HOTA while you're staying at Sea World or Surfers or Broadbeach.

All-in-all, highly recommend visiting HOTA, even if you're a GC local, coz you're sure to have...

HOTA is a true gem on the Gold Coast, offering an immersive arts experience that blends culture, creativity, and community in a spectacular riverside setting. The modern architectural design itself is a visual delight — an icon that perfectly complements the vibrant atmosphere inside.

Whether you’re catching a world-class exhibition at the gallery, attending a performance in the state-of-the-art theatre, or enjoying the lively outdoor concerts and festivals, there’s always something happening to pique your interest. The rotating art exhibitions are thoughtfully curated, showcasing a diverse range of local, national, and international artists that cater to all tastes.

One of the highlights is the rooftop bar and viewing deck, which offers sweeping views of the Gold Coast skyline and hinterland — the perfect spot to unwind with a drink at sunset. The staff are warm and knowledgeable, adding to the welcoming vibe that makes every visit memorable.

HOTA’s dedication to community engagement is also commendable, with interactive workshops, kids’ activities, and artist talks that make art accessible and inclusive. The outdoor amphitheatre, with its lakeside backdrop, is a fantastic venue for live music and festivals, and it truly comes alive during evening events.

If you’re visiting the Gold Coast and want to experience its creative heartbeat, HOTA is an absolute must. Whether you’re a seasoned art lover or just curious to explore, you’ll leave inspired and...

This is almost a secret GEM of a spot on the Gold Coast. Hats off to the Council for redeveloping this area. It’s such a relaxing place with many grassy areas for families to setup for a picnic, or where you could just rest in the sun to read a book or work on your tan. Even though you feel completely removed from the hustle and bustle of Surfers, there are many areas where you can sit and watch the watercraft on the canals, and take in magnificent views of the Surfers skyline. The new amphitheatre area has a lovely sandstone path located directly behind the stage that takes you to the top of a small hill which gives you a fantastic view of the Surfers Skyline. You also have the man made lake which allows you to take a nice dip in the water for a refreshing swim. There are very good shower and toilet amenities located here, allowing you to take a shower after your swim. Farmers Markets happen here on a regular basis, and the area is now linked to Chevron Island via the new Green Bridge. Lastly, I cant wait for the new HOTA arts complex to be completed. Its design is hard to explain apart from that it is very eye catching, and the top deck of the building will offer unprecedented views of Surfers once completed.

Surrounded by tropical parklands 🌴 with the Surfers Paradise skyline 🏢 and Nerang river 🌊 as the backdrop, HOTA (Home Of The Arts) is an iconic and contemporary cultural precinct in the heart ❤️ of the Gold Coast. It's where art 🎨 entertainment, culture, and lifestyle meet 🤝 It’s your place for live performances, lake-side strolls 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ and swims, star-gazing ⭐️ cinema-watching, incredible art, and new ideas. It's a place that locals love, and visitors must see 👀 Unfortunately we were too late ⌚️ to visit the gallery, but the park was dotted throughout 🗿 with interesting sculptures. We took a very welcome dip 🏊‍♀️ in the Evandale Lake after a hot 🥵 and humid day. The lake is an enclosed lagoon and drops of quite deep. The water was a perfect temperature 👍 and so refreshing. The park can be booked for events, and has two chapels 👰🤵‍♂ on site for weddings. As we left, a school was having their year end formal 🕺💃 and we saw all these fancy people and cars 🚗🚕 arrive. We couldn't figure out the parking situation though. I wish we had more time to spend here🙁 I guess it's an excuse to come back ☺️ again.
