On arrival we were beautifully welcomed and seated very quickly. When we went to order the food the waiter advised us of a special which was a 500g Rib Eye that was $50. With excitement we went ahead with his offer. We had a Tuna Takama which came out beautifully presented and the flavours were very well balanced. Then the mains came out so well presented but unfortunately the experience did not match our expectation. The Rib Eye was unevenly cooked with some parts well done and the other end was rare. Unfortunately that end was so chewy and fatty that it would just not breakdown at all which made it not edible. In the end there was about 1/3 of the meat that had been attempted but was unsuccessful in being able to be consumed. The added surprise was that the steak did not come with any sides on the plate. My partner had the Barramundi dish which again came out so aesthetically pleasing. It was by far the better dish of the two but would like to highlight that the flavours were extremely salty and lacked in balance and complexity. The bigger issue is that the fish was overwhelmingly swimming in the salty sauce which made it hard to control the volume you desired. In the end when we went to settle the bill and was asked how was the meal and we were honest with our experience. The guy said "oh no sorry". And then rushed us to pay the bill with no compensation. Having been to Japan and also go out often in Brisbane to have Japanese cuisine this quality of food was very under par. In conclusion there are many other Japanese restaurants I would recommend before trying this place especially for the cost. Drive that tiny bit further and try Yamagen at QT Resort, it is worth every dollar. And every bite is sensational. Embarrassingly we felt unsatisfied afterwards so much so we felt...
Read moreA pleasant surprise. We actually had reservations at another Japanese restaurant, however that one left us disappoint as they were unable to honour our reservation. Stop forward Mr Kojima, they were able to get our party of four seated quickly and we opted for the Omakase menu, which is more akin to a 'feed me' set menu where they do the hard work of picking what to eat. $65pp, we weren't sure what to think, but there was. Huge amount of variety and definitely enough food to leave you content with a full belly. Some highlights included the Wagyu beef on a sizzling cast iron, the pork belly and the tuna tartare with crispy rice bites. The staff were super nice and knowledgeable, especially as one of our diners required gluten free food. Very happy that we stumbled upon this little gem and we will definitely be back when we visit the Gold...
Read moreVery disappointed with my dinner experience at this restauran. The girl who served us was extremely rude. She kept taking away our plates without asking, and even before we finished our food! Even at the shopping food court, people would ask before they take your plates away. We felt extremely unwelcome and uncomfortable. Her service is even worse than Macca’a and you called it “Fine dining”? What a joke! Learn from Kiyomi or Mamasan, or any Japanese restaurant on the GC!
Not even mention that my friend and I both got sore stomach right after dinner - it was from the deep fried lotus roots (coz they are overcooked and the oil tasted off).
This is my 3rd time and surely the last time coming to this restaurant. There are a lot of good Asian fusion restaurants on the GC. And I’m sure they would have better service...
