I'm sorry. I can't review the food or the drinks because I didn't have any before I walked out. The view is spectacular and the whole area is a beautiful space to spend time but I have to say that clearly that Bar isn't there to make money. It is essentially a casual dining/drinking area with staff instructed to act as if it is a fine dining restaurant. Patrons appear to be an annoying interruption to the staff as they enjoy their day. The woman who halted us at the door appeared to be a method actor practising her role from an episode of Ăre you being served. " Mrs Slocombe at her off-handed best or Hyacinth Bucket from "Keeping up Appearances"". Not visually but in her supreme level of condescension and affected manner. Fawlty Towers also comes to mind but perhaps more accurately I was left with a strong impression of an Eastern Block cafe pre 1989, "You vill do as ve say". The place wasn't that busy, we were dismissed and instructed to come back in half an hour when there were empty tables and then she might be able to fit us in. We were refused the possiblity of joining some tables (there were 7 of us) but soon enough there were some departures. We were one chair short and a nearby table allowed us to have one of their's but when we moved it the Stazi suddenly found they could give us some attention and admonished us in Schoolmarmish tones "how could you do that, why would you do that". At that point I left but my friends, desperate for a drink, stayed on. Basil continued on her way later employing such well used phrases as "No that is not possible"and Ăs I told you before". To be fair there was an older waitress(older than the other staff) who was polite and accomodating. But look, don't not come because of this review. It is potentially a very nice place to spend some time. Hopefully with the passage of time Basil may realise customers are not just an inconvenience but a...
Read moreOur party of four had a deeply disappointing experience at Exhibitionist Bar with the Miccy Zeeâs pop-up during Bleach Festival. Unbeknownst to us, and likely many other patrons, we were presumably part of an art installation, resulting in an unenjoyable dining experience. We had been looking forward to ending our day with shared platters & cocktails after an event at HOTA, but the evening fell far short of expectations. There was no table service; instead, a roped-off red carpet to order at a cashier (yeah, I get the juxtaposition) left me queuing while my group chatted without me. My daughter wanted a mocktail. There were only two options on the menu and the one she wanted was unavailable, which further soured the mood. The menu was âstreet foodâ so we dropped the cocktail order and just had water. The food arrived in cardboard boxes and on cafeteria trays, with no cutlery provided. When we requested utensils, we were dismissively told, âItâs like McDonaldâs.â My daughterâs burger buns were badly burnt, and the rest of the food was bland, boring, and poorly presented. The staff seemed disorganised, inattentive, and uninterested. The jarring contrast between the barâs elegant setting and this lackluster experience was disappointing. Save the âpop-upâ âelegance/trashâ experience for a market stall outside on the grounds of HOTA where it would be amusing and appreciated. Otherwise you risk sullying the establishmentâs reputation. Exhibitionist Bar completely missed the mark on...
Read moreThis place should not be included in the gallery experience. It should be the cherry on top of a great experience instead it left a bitter taste. We were seated and given menus. As soon as we reached for the menu the waitress asked what we wanted to drink. The menus were closed. We had not opened them yet. My husband ordered a coffee and I said I wanted to look at the wine menu. I didnt even have the menu in hand when the waitress asked again what I wanted to drink. I told her I dont know yet and instead of giving me space and telling us she will come back in a few minutes she waited at the table and then when I started to read the menu she asked again. I told her I dont know yet as I am still looking and she huffed and walked away. She came back a bit later with "do you know what you want yet". I watched her do this to 3 other customers... all were rushed and pressured to order when they havent even been in their seats long enough to open the menu. No patience. Not even average service. You may be busy but that does not mean you have to rush and...
