My mother and I walked in one day ( of the wooden boat festival ) thinking it would be great to see some of the art our great culture has. My mum picked up a bracelet thinking it would be nice to buy one for me. There was no sign indicating "do not touch" nothing at all. - how were people meant to know not to touch it? She was then verbally Abused by the man in there who was talking to another customer at the time. He yelled insults at us at the time, And suggested we " go back to the cruise ship " which we weren't even on. " for gods sake, it's an art gallery what do you expect people to do?!" He yelled at my mother and I. - I also had my younger brother with me at the time and was to neieve to understand why this rude man was yelling at us.
There was worse things said which I do not feel I should share. but if any general public are considering visiting this and you are a mother with children. Do not visit this place. I was appalled at the rudeness, aggressiveness and were close to calling the police. Just an innocent mother and two children. What did we do wrong? I hope you can read this and understand that this is not right to treat people like this anywhere at anytime.
my sincere apologies to your staff whom have to put up with this man everyday at work. You should invest in a new employee with some customer service skills. If you wish to contact me further on this issue, please don't hesitate to flick me an email.
Also as pointed out below, we did not intend to use the art gallery as a thoroughfare. My mothers side of the family has cultural heritage. We currently attend Tagari Lia family and child aboriginal centre. Located in green point road. Maybe next time with your "suggesting" you could calm down a bit and say it in a much more pleasant tone.
Funny how you can treat people of the lia pootah...
Read moreWith half an hour to spare last night, we walked around the Hobart waterfront and stumbled upon this amazing gallery featuring some wonderful Aboriginal art. Even though it was obvious that we were only browsing, Euan, the director, was extremely friendly and told us about the art work and the artists whom he seems to all know and support personally. He asked us to try viewing the art work with 3D glasses he imports from the US, and we literally discovered a whole new dimension to his paintings - I never knew different colours had different dimensions! The 3D effect was particularly amazing in paintings of the night sky. I had read somewhere that Aboriginals see things differently from the rest of us, and it made me wonder whether these artists, even though none of them have ever seen their work with these glasses according to Euan, actually see that third dimension while they...
Read moreThis was my first time entering an art shop, to find an art piece for a gift for my sister. Very nervous - I'm not art literate, didn't have any idea what to find there, and had opinion that the place was 'cold' and expensive.
I don't have any choice, so me and my family entered the place, and to our surprise, the owner was welcoming, answering our questions patiently, and helping us find the right gift. It was a good experience for all of us.
I'm not saying that I'm becoming an art expert after visiting this place, but with the good experience we had, I started to love the arts and want to...
