A local resident I’ve been to Mures quite a lot and each time I’m left disappointed. The location is fabulous . Right on the docks. You are in Hobart central for atmospherics. The restaurant itself has a great ice cream parlour and the service staff are friendly and efficient. They can get busy but they handle any rush really well. Sadly the one thing that lets them down , which is deadly for restaurant , is the food. Tonight I ordered the Seafood Basket for one , A Ceaser Salad with wild fish and a kids menus Nuggets and chips. Cost , $34 for the basket, $28 for the Salad and wild fish and $11 for the kids menu. Really not a lot of money until you come to what you actually get. Fisherman’s Basket . One shrimp , One Scallop one piece of wild fish ( good quality ) terrible chips ( a feature of my last three visits ) they are truly awful and the make up the bulk of the serving along with squid in batter . Ceaser Salad was a huge portion but had no chicken and was very dry and uninspiring. The kids menu Nuggets was no game winner , a pile of those awful chips and four nuggets , one left behind with the bulk of the chips. I know it all sounds not at all good but ……the staff are great . The ice cream to die for and the location world class … but the chips and one shrimp and one scallop and lots of squid killed it...

I was heading to my absolute favourite ice cream shop in Hobart – Van Diemens Land Creamery, Brooke Street Pier, 12 Franklin Wharf, Hobart TAS 7000 – where the ice cream is beautiful, tasty, and absolutely delicious, and the service is always next level. The girls there are so lovely, helpful, and greet you with a big, beautiful smile.
Unfortunately, it closes at 8 pm, and I missed it by 25 minutes. Big mistake deciding to try Mures “Famous” Ice Cream, Victoria Dock, Hobart TAS 7000, instead. Honestly, the biggest mistake of my life.
The ice cream had no flavour. Bland. Boring. Absolutely nothing “famous” about it. They should stick to fish and chips because the ice cream is rubbish. I actually had to throw it away – gave it to the fish instead.
💡 Fast forward to 8 Aug – I made sure to get to Van Diemens Land Creamery early, and wow, it was worth it. I tried a new flavour called Leatherwood – so nice it’s nicer than nice. The service? Once again, amazing. This time I was served by a lovely girl from Argentina – so friendly, with a big smile, beautiful and cute, looked like a supermodel. Honestly, the ice cream AND the service here are in a league of their own.
If you’re in Hobart – skip Mures ice cream. Go straight to Van Diemens Land Creamery for...
