My experience at Mures Upper Deck had an unusual start but turned into a memorable visit, thanks to the exceptional service provided by Michael. Initial Contact: When I first called, I spoke to a female staff member who informed me the restaurant was fully booked but said I could sit at the bar and eat. She added that I’d need to finish within an hour to accommodate dinner guests, which didn’t feel very welcoming. This initially put me off. After searching for other options, I decided to call Mures again. This time, I spoke to Michael, whose customer service was outstanding. He explained the seating at the bar, mentioned there were actual tables available near the bar, and shared details about the restaurant’s recent renovations. His friendly and professional demeanor made the place sound much more appealing, so I decided to give it a try. Arrival and Service: Upon arrival, Michael greeted me warmly with a handshake, which is rare these days. He explained how everything worked and personally showed me to my seat. His hospitality and enthusiasm truly stood out and set the tone for the evening. Food and Drinks: I ordered the seafood platter for one and a Long Island iced tea. •Drinks: A special shoutout to the bartenders who accommodated my request for a Long Island, which wasn’t on the menu. It was expertly made and truly exceptional. •Seafood Platter: The platter was incredible, showcasing some of the best Tasmanian seafood I’ve ever had. •Tasmanian Oysters: Fresh, flavorful, and a standout. •Prawns: Perfectly peeled, fresh, and delicious. •Tasmanian Salmon: Outstanding quality—rich in flavor with no fishy taste. Easily one of the best I’ve had. •Calamari and Mure Fish: I requested these grilled instead of fried, which was accommodated without issue. - Calamari: Exceptionally tender and flavourful, unlike anything I’ve had before. - Mure Fish: Unfortunately, this was the only letdown. It was slightly undercooked, which detracted from an otherwise perfect dish. Overall Experience: The presentation, service, and food were top-notch. While the mure fish was a slight disappointment, it didn’t overshadow the overall experience. Michael’s exceptional hospitality was the highlight of the visit and the reason I chose to dine here in the first place. A fantastic dining experience with world-class seafood and service. Thanks to Michael for making it memorable!

I can't remember when the first time I visited Mures was, a long time ago now. Visiting Mures Upper Deck on the last night before departure for Antarctica was pretty much a rite of passage. It has been a few years since I last visited Hobart and for this visit Mures was on the top of my list for a walk down memory lane. Unfortunately it is not what it once was. I had a dozen oysters as an entrée; six natural and six Kilpatrick. They were delicious, full of flavour. My mistake was to have the Smoky Fish Chowder as a main. I did this because I love chowder and I have had a different chowder here before, albeit a long time ago, so I thought that I would give this one a go. I have eaten chowder in multiple cities in multiple countries and expect a creamy, rich and sophisticated flavour no matter whether it is clam chowder or some other seafood chowder. There was nothing subtle about the flavour of this chowder. It had a very robust flavour and it was just too much for a main course. My mistake. The other mistake that I made was attempting to finish it all, and I suffered for that later. My wife was going to have the lobster salad but when she discovered that it was $120 she declined. We understand that lobsters are expensive but when the waiter described it as a small half lobster we couldn't see the value in it. We also understand that Mures has always been regarded as a premium seafood restaurant hence the premium price. She had the Australian Seafood pasta instead and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was generally good. Attentive and efficient. The qualifier is that when I was ordering my meal our waiter cut me off and talked over the top of me while I was still trying to place my order. Later on I was talking to my wife about our holiday and where we were going next and the same waiter came back to the table and interrupted the conversation, cutting me off mid sentence by addressing my wife directly about her choice of cocktail. I find this to be exceedingly rude and disrespectful, but I am old school, some would say an old phart. Overall it wasn't cheap and not worth the money that we paid. The drinks were good, but expensive. When considering our meal we found that there are other venues close by that have better seafood, and better service, at a more reasonable rate. I won't be back any time soon.

From out of town celebrating my wife's 50th and had to book Mures Upper Deck for a luxe seafood dinner. What can I say? It delivered on every level! Cynthia our server for the evening was simply enchanting and friendly, answering all our questions and helping to recommend some options so we could narrow down our order. It's hard for two people who want to try EVERYTHING! We ended up having the seafood platter with a half lobster so we could try almost everything (affirmed with Cynthia's nod of approval). And what a feast it was! We had a fantastic time slowly trying out each bit. The half lobster was divine, and my wife who's never into cream sauces adored the Mornay. The oysters were so fresh, the crumb on the fresh white fish so delicate and the prawns so sweet! The rest were equally tasty, it was like a personal mini seafood buffet. At the end, we still found space for dessert and had the apple tart tartin. While the pastry wasn't crisp, the caramel was taken to the edge of burnt which was delightful and delicious. All in all, a perfect start to kick off our inaugural dinner in Tasmania! The rest have our meals have got big shoes to fill! Thanks Mures Upper Deck team!

We went to the Upper Deck as one of our many restaurants meals in Hobart this December 2022 and were looking forward to a great meal at a FAIR price. We had … the Chowder - which was good and at $22 was great value ! The Laksa - which was fabulous and extremely tasty and for $38 a great meal And The Half Cray & Salad - which was Basic and extremely underwhelming - and at $120 NOT Good OR Fair Value !! The lobster meat was removed from the shell and cut into the bite sized pieces and presented in the half shell …BUT not all of the extracted meat was returned !! Which to say the least is not what SHOULD happen! After eating what meat was provided … with the Roe and sauce and the salad … I enjoyed the balance of my wife’s laksa meal !! So NOT sated by the half cray !! When paying the bill I voiced my view to the manager and his response was to say the price is “market” and to discount our meal by $16!! effectively giving us some sparkling water for free !! Just Beware !! SEE Photos

Booked online for 5 guest but confirmation only showed 2. Called restaurant 15 times but no answer & no response to email to clarify the error. Turned up to the restaurant and they were able to accommodate the seating. Not sure why the calls were not being answered as there were plenty staff and restaurant was not busy on a Sunday night 5pm dinner. The waitress who tended to our table did not appear to be happy to be there. No smiles and communication felt abrupt. Was told would return to take drinks order but did not, she was putting together napkins & cutlery instead, until i called her over. Ordered myself a cocktail & she asked if I knew it was a cocktail (felt judged having an alcoholic beverage with kids in tow). Food came out relatively quick. Kids meals was a very decent size. Fish chowder, scallop entree, steak and spaghetti dishes were all very flavoursome. Lychee blossom cocktail was lovely.

A Disappointing Dining Experience Given the restaurant's pricing, I had high expectations that unfortunately were not met. The sourdough bread lacked the depth of flavor I was hoping for, texture like cake, and the scallops reminded me more of a budget fish and chip shop preparation rather than a refined restaurant dish. Fries was not fresh. The fish itself was underwhelming - seemingly overcooked to the point of being tasteless and tough, almost as if it had been boiled without any seasoning. Service also fell short of expectations. My request for tomato sauce was overlooked by the waitress, which added to the overall frustration. I noticed another table with similar dishes, and they too seemed unimpressed, with one diner leaving their fries untouched. Considering the price point, I cannot recommend this restaurant . There's significant room for improvement in both culinary execution and service.
